Everyone has a dubious crush. The guy one’s friends swear isn’t hot, but fugly. Or the guy who’s crazy hot but really needs a shave, shower, and a job. Perfectly normal.

Jace Matthews has a crush on someone he shouldn’t, too.
It’s just that his crush is more socially unacceptable than most because Jace is obsessed with Detective Garrett Locke.
The man is older than him (by a lot), gruff, and serious. He might also be mostly straight. All of that is bad, but not a dealbreaker.
The real problem with desperately wanting to belong to Detective Locke is that he was the man who rescued Jace when he was abducted at a young age. Jace lost his family to a madman and when the rest of the world forgot about Jace, Detective Locke didn’t.
He sent Jace stuffed animals every Christmas while he was in the group home.
Now Jace is 24 and living his best life in the big city. He’s a nurse and occasionally tends bar at a hip gay nightclub.
