With her granddaughter now living in Fir Tree Grove and another holiday season fast approaching, Mabel Stewart is enjoying life more than ever. Her toy shop is thriving, and her teasingly contentious relationship with George Lowery is an endless source of entertainment.

She’s always assumed that she and George are too different to truly get along—after all, she’s a spontaneous, fun-loving prankster, and he’s known for his gruff practicality.
But when George finds a stray kitten and brings it to Mabel’s shop on a cold December evening, she finds out that they have one very important thing in common: neither one of them can stand to see the poor little creature hungry and bedraggled.

When Mabel impulsively decides to take care of the kitten until they can find it a forever home, she recruits George to help her. Since Christmas is the busiest time of year for them both, sharing kitten duties seems like the perfect solution to ensure that the adorable bundle of fur gets all the attention it needs.
Neither of them expects caring for a stray over the holidays to soften their long-standing rivalry—but between choosing a name, dealing with the mischievous kitten’s antics, and pulling off an elaborate cat toy prank, these two polar opposites start to realize that maybe they can meet in the middle.
