I really do have the worst luck, don’t I? Raised so poor that I literally didn’t know when my next meal would be. The only good thing about my life back then was my neighbor James. We endured life together, suffered in the same trailer park together.
The only thing that brought us happiness at that time was learning how to skate at the ice rink and spending hours upon hours there.
And then came hockey…
And then James was offered a full ride scholarship states and states away from our past.
We gripped onto that like a lifeline. With his young twin sisters in tow, we left that old life behind. I put my entire life on hold to help him raise those sweet girls so he could focus on his dreams… and laid mine to rest.
It wasn’t all bad, I am still in the medical field, I still skate and watch as many hockey games as I can…
But I thought that James and I were on the same page. I thought that he loved me as much as I loved him.
One regretful night leads to these two pink lines… and then he walks into my clinic with his new girlfriend on his arm. And now I feel like my life is over.
