What’s worse than never finding your fated mate? Scenting them at a rest stop, one they left hours earlier.
I always thought I’d scent my mate; we’d look lovingly into each other’s eyes and then start our happy ever after. That was not at all how it happened. Instead, I pulled into a rest stop when my truck overheated, caught his faint scent only to discover he’d already left. My dragon insisted I find him, and Goddess knows I tried.
Tried and failed.
My dragon was not impressed.
As time passed, my beast went from agitated to angry to uncontrollable. Now, I’m no longer fit to be around others, my dragon willing to burn anyone to ash for any reason. I have two choices: live in isolation, deep in the woods, or wait for someone to put me down. I chose the cabin, unwilling to risk the lives of others all for a chance at happiness. Who knows, maybe Fate will shine down on me, and my mate will randomly show up. A dragon can dream.
