Cara McKenzie is risk averse.

She’s lived her whole life so afraid to make a mistake that she’s never really done anything. Now, newly single, dumped for being too boring and predictable, she realises it’s time to change. When her estranged grandmother dies, leaving her a house in South Carolina, Cara takes a leap and leaves Scotland for a new life in the States.

The house is a wreck and the man who has the skills to fix it up for her is the most unfriendly person she’s ever met… which for some reason, makes her feel things she’s never felt.

Doug Campbell is stuck.

When he finally left Forest Falls and set up a good life for himself, he made a mistake that landed him back in his childhood bedroom in his mother’s house, and that’s where he’s been for the past five years; sleeping with his ex was the mistake, his daughter, is his everything.

Instead of fixing up old houses all over the state as planned, Doug now makes ends meet by picking up odd jobs, and bowing to his exes wishes to keep his child in his life.

When the house of his dreams falls into Cara’s hands, Doug gets the chance to bring it, and himself, back to life.
