I’m falling in love with the town’s pariah and I can’t help myself.
This time of the year is for magic, love and miracles, all the things I used to believe in. But now I’m in debt, late on my mortgage payments and I’m pretty sure my little brother is into some dark dealings.
The only bright moment of my day is when he messages me asking me about my day. Only he’s not doing it because he’s interested in me. He’s doing it because I’m doing him an important favor.
But those texts and phone calls are my lifeline these days and I’m not sure I’ll survive when all of this is over.

When my mother got diagnosed with a degenerative disease I became angry with the world. I used and abused everyone around me, even taking advantage of the good souls of Woodland Falls.
As I pocketed money that wasn’t mine, my mother’s condition worsened and I ended up having to put her in long term care.
When the town pretty much threw me out, I had this gentle soul deliver the weekly flowers I got for my mother until I could come back to town. Now that she’s on her last days, I need to come back and face the consequences of my actions.
If only her gentle and kind demeanor towards my mother extended to me, I’d start believing in miracles again.
