Carter walked over with a smile when he saw me holding the baby.

“Here, hold him.” I lifted my arms and handed Liam to Carter.

“Hey, little man.” He smiled. “You are just too cute. Thank God you don’t look like your daddy.”

“I heard that.” Jackson walked over.

As soon as we landed in Vegas, each family climbed into the limousines waiting for us, and we headed to the Bellagio to check-in.

“Let’s all get settled in our suites and meet down in the lounge in an hour,” Grayson said. “What suite are you?” he asked Carter.

Carter showed him his keycard, and Grayson smiled. “We’re right next to you.”

We took the elevators up to our suites, and when Carter and I stepped inside, I was in awe of its beauty.

“Wow. This is beautiful.” I smiled.

“What do we have here?” He set down our bags, walked over to the table, and pulled a bottle of champagne from the bucket of ice. “Let’s open it and have a glass before we go down to meet the family.”

“Sure. You pour, and I’ll take our bags to the bedroom. I have to use the bathroom.”

I set our bags on the bed, unzipped mine, and stared down at the box that contained a pregnancy test. Grabbing it, I took it into the bathroom and shut the door. After peeing on the stick, I set it on the counter, washed my hands, and gripped the marble counter, lowering my head and looking away from the test as it processed. I was scared and unsure. Unsure of how Carter would react to the news if I were pregnant. Everything happened with us so quickly; a surprise pregnancy wouldn’t surprise me. Was I ready to be a mother? I never thought about a family of my own because I couldn’t even manage to stick around in a relationship long enough. But with Carter, I saw my future for the first time, and it was a future of love, happiness, and children. Shit. I didn’t know if he even wanted kids because we never talked about children before. But I saw how he was with the children in the family, and I knew someday he’d make a great dad. That day may be sooner than both of us thought.

“Babe, what are you doing in there?” Carter asked from the other side of the door.

“The toilet seat is heated, and it feels so good. My ass is in heaven. I’ll be out in a minute.”

“You’re weird.” He chuckled.

I slowly diverted my eyes to the test strip and saw the two pink lines staring back at me. Tears filled my eyes, and I wasn’t sure if they were tears of joy or tears of fear. I had just moved in with Carter and opened a bakery, and now there was a baby in my belly. If there was ever a time when I needed Ben and Jerry, it was now.

Grabbing the stick, I tucked it into the waistband of my leggings and opened the door. When I walked out into the living area, Carter was on the phone with someone.

“You tell that motherfucker that I’m coming after him and his company. Got it? Thanks, Tony. I’ll talk to you when I get back.”

“Something wrong?” I asked.

“Just business, babe.” Carter smiled. He walked over to the table, picked up my glass of champagne, and handed it to me.

“To us, Vegas, and fun times.” He smiled as he held up his glass.

“Cheers.” I clanked mine against his. He took a sip. I didn’t.”

“Taste it. It’s really good,” he said as he finished off his glass.

“We’re late, Carter,” I blurted out.

He glanced at his watch. “Late for what? We have thirty minutes before we have to be downstairs.”

“Let me rephrase that. I’m late.”

He cocked his head and raised a brow. “You’re late for what, babe?”

“See this champagne?” I held up the glass.

“Yeah.”

“I’ll drink it in about nine months. Do you think it’ll still be good?”
