Jackson walked into the waiting room, and we all stared at him.

“You guys go on home. I’ll text you when the baby is born. Georgia isn’t progressing, and it’s going to be a while.”

“You better text us right when that kid comes out.” Conner hugged him.

“I will. Don’t worry.”

We all said goodbye to Jackson and headed home.

It was six a.m. when my alarm went off. I’d barely slept all night, and I was exhausted. While I was in the shower, I heard my phone ding. After finishing, I wrapped the towel around my waist, grabbed my phone, and saw a message from Jackson in our group chat.

“Liam Jackson Kind is here! He and Georgia are doing great, and we can’t wait for you to meet him.”

A smile crossed my lips as I replied.

“Congratulations, Dad. Tell Georgia congrats, and I’ll be by the hospital later.”

I sent Zoey a text because I knew she’d want to know.

“Hi. Georgia had the baby this morning. I thought you’d want to know.”

I set my phone down and finished getting ready for work. As the day went on, and I was in back-to-back meetings, I kept checking my phone to see if Zoey had replied to my text message. She didn’t, and I knew she was pissed at me.

I left the office early and headed to the hospital to meet the newest Kind family member. When I stepped into the room, I saw Zoey talking to Georgia.

“Carter.” Georgia smiled. “Thank you for the beautiful flowers you sent earlier.

“You’re welcome.” I smiled as I walked over and kissed her cheek. “Congratulations. Congrats, cousin.” I hugged Jackson. “Hey, Zoey.”

She looked away from me, stood up from the edge of the bed, and grabbed her purse.

“I have to get going. Your son is gorgeous.” She smiled at Georgia.

“Thanks for stopping by, Zoey. And thank you for the baby gift and beautiful flowers.”

She left the room, and Georgia and Jackson stared at me.

“I’ll be right back,” I sighed. “Zoey, wait.” I ran down the hallway to catch up with her.

“I have nothing to say to you, Kind.” She stopped at the elevator and pushed the button.

“We should talk,” I said.

The elevator doors opened. “Oh, hey.” Simon grinned.

“I have nothing to say to you,” Zoey spat through gritted teeth. “Leave me alone!” She stepped onto the elevator.

“Oh, shit,” Simon said.

“What did you do?” Grace cocked her head.

“Zoey, come on.” The elevator doors began to close. I stopped them with my hand and stepped inside.

“I’m warning you, Carter.”

“We need to talk about yesterday.” The doors opened, and we stepped out into the lobby.

“You said everything when you left the to-go cup out and a note kicking me out without any explanation.” She hurried to her car, and I lightly grabbed her arm.
