“Kate, stop!” Grayson said.

“Bro, what did you do?” Gabriel asked.

“He went and visited that woman.” Kate looked at him.

“I didn’t tell her who I was. I swear. I just wanted to meet her. Come on. Let’s talk about this back at the house,” Grayson said. “By the way. You haven’t met my brother, Carter, yet. Carter, this is Kate.”

“Nice to meet you, brother-in-law. Let’s go, Kind.” She pulled him up by his shirt.

“Grayson’s getting his ass whipped.” Simon laughed as they walked away.

“Wow. She’s tough.” I smiled.

“One of the toughest women I know besides Grace,” Simon said.

“Is he going to be okay?” I asked.

“He’ll be fine. He knows how to handle her,” Gabriel said.

After a while, I went back to Grayson’s house. When I walked through the sliding door, Ava or Kate smiled. I wasn’t sure who she was.

“I have perfect ideas for furniture and décor for your house.” She grabbed her notepad from the island. “This is what I drew up for the furniture placement.”

“I love it, Ava. Thank you.”

“Are you free to go shopping tomorrow?” she asked.

“Yeah. I am.”

“Excellent. If you two handsome men will excuse me, I’m going to take a bath. The guestroom is all made up for you, Carter.” She kissed my cheek.

“Thanks, Ava. I appreciate it.”

She went upstairs, and Grayson leaned against the island and stared at me.

“Everything okay?” My brow arched.

“Yeah. Kate and I talked.”

“Why did you go there, bro?” I asked.

“I needed to meet the woman who did those things to my wife. I couldn’t stand it anymore.”

“Who did you say you were?”

“I told her that I was a journalist doing an article on women in prison, and I picked her name from a long list the prison gave me.”

“And she bought that?”

“Yeah. I was only there for fifteen minutes. I couldn’t stand looking at her.” He shook his head. “I should have known that Kate would find out. But we’re good. Don’t be surprised if Ophelia makes a huge breakfast tomorrow. She likes to impress.”

“I’d like to meet her. I’ve only met Freya and now Kate. How do you do it, bro?”

“I love her more than life. The others aren’t out very much anymore. It’s been quiet until today.” He chuckled.

“Well, I think Ava is a wonderful woman.” I walked over and placed my hand on his shoulder.

“Me too.” He smiled.
