The following morning, after getting dressed, I climbed into my rental car and drove to Sterling Capital. Bruno and Leo greeted me when the elevator doors opened to the offices.

“Good morning, Miss Morgan. Welcome to Sterling Capital,” Bruno spoke.

“Good morning.” Leo nodded.

“Good morning, boys. I’ll take this greeting over the one yesterday.” I smirked.

“Zoey.” Selena smiled when she walked over. “Welcome to Sterling Capital. Come with me, and I’ll take you to Shaun’s office. Can I get you a coffee?”

“That would be great. Thanks, Selena,” I said as I stepped into Shaun’s office.

“Good morning.” Shaun smiled.

“Good morning.” I took a seat in front of his desk. “Have you decided how you’re going to have me get into the accounting software without your staff becoming suspicious?”

“I have, and I hope you don’t mind what I’m about to say. After giving it some thought, I decided it would be best if you didn’t come to the office. I can’t risk Ed seeing you here after yesterday. I’ll have my people come to your apartment and set up a computer system with a special login only for you. Nobody on my staff will know you’ve logged into the system except me. Is that okay?”

“Yeah. That’s fine, Shaun. You don’t want anyone to know who I am or why I’m here. If any of your accounting or real estate staff gets wind of it, they’ll either modify and try to hide transactions or run, and your money goes with them.”

Selena walked in and handed me my coffee.

“Thank you, Selena.” I smiled. “When will your people be at my apartment?” I asked Shaun.

He picked up a pen from his desk and leaned back in his chair. “You tell me when you’re available.”

“I do have to buy a new car today. So, how about this afternoon?”

“What kind of car are you considering buying?” he asked.

“Another jeep.”

“You’re in luck.” A grin crossed his lips. “I have a friend who owns a Jeep dealership. Let me give him a call.” He picked up his phone and put it on speaker.

“Shaun, to what do I owe the pleasure?”

“Hey, Barry. I have a friend who wants to buy a new Jeep. I’m sending her over to you. Make sure she gets a good deal.”

“Will do, my friend. What’s her name?”

“Zoey Morgan.”

“Tell her to ask for me when she gets here.”

“Will do. Thanks, Barry.”

He wrote the dealership’s address on a piece of paper and handed it to me. His office door opened, and Carter walked in.

“Good morning.” A bright smile crossed his lips.

“Good morning, Carter.”

“My guys are going to set up the computer system at her apartment this afternoon. She needs to go buy a car first,” Shaun said. “I’m sending her to my Jeep friend.”

“That’s great. So, how are you getting from the car rental shop to the dealership?” Carter asked as his eyes stared into mine.

“There’s this thing. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of it or not, but it’s called Uber. All you have to do is pull up the app, tap, and your ride arrives.” I smiled.

“Never heard of it, and it sounds dreadful. I’ll follow you to the car rental shop and then take you to the dealership.”
