Scarlett

Iheaded over to the bathroom, and the first thing I did was call Sophie.

“Hey! Have you ever at any point in time felt any attraction whatsoever between you and Lucien?” I asked.

Afterwards, I stared at my reflection in the mirror while waiting for a response. I was a little wide-eyed with shock as I caught my reflection. That was mostly because this was something I had never even allowed myself to want. I had been banned from wanting it, yet here I was being handed it on a platter, and I had absolutely no clue what to do.

He was so direct, and I loved that even more. I wasn’t surprised, and this also transferred to my expectations of him in other areas. The buzz between my thighs throbbed even harder in anticipation and expectation, but all of that was until my sister sighed.

“Do you know how many times you’ve asked me this within the past twenty-four hours?” She asked, “Or mentioned it or alluded to it?”

My smile was sheepish even if she couldn't see me.

“I didn't ask this particular question,” I replied and heard her sigh.

“I get it, he's hot, but can't you just ignore this and do your job like everyone else?”

That had been my exact plan, but now things had changed, and I wondered about it. If I were to reject him, would this even bode well for our relationship? Would it be awkward? I knew I had to tell her about the proposition because I couldn’t truly imagine doing this behind her back.

“Sophie,” I called, but she didn't respond.

I continued anyway, “That was my plan, but he was the one who asked me.”

Her silence extended for so long once again that I truly thought the line had disconnected. However, when I pulled the phone away from my ear, I found that she was still on the line.

“What?” she asked.

“We’re at dinner. The meeting with Charles Nioly is done, and he asked me.”

“What do you mean he asked you?” She asked. “Lucien would never do that. He doesn't mix business with pleasure.”

I didn’t know how to respond until she began to growl at me.

“What the heck did you do, Scarlett?”

“Okay, you need to stop accusing me,” I said. “It's making me feel bad.”

She ignored this. “It's your cleavage, isn’t it? You couldn’t just keep it in for one week.”

This made me snort in laughter, but truly none of this was a joke whatsoever. She sighed again.

“First of all, let me confirm again that he asked, and this is not you just trying to seduce him?”

“You're offending me,” I said. “Why would I do that when your job is at stake?”

“Honey, you do that just like breathing. This is why I told you to wear my clothes and be-”

“Dreary?” I shot back.

“Yes, dreary,” she snapped. “What's wrong with that for one week?”

I was beginning to get mad.

“You know what, whatever,” I said, ready to end the call.

“Whatever what?” she said. “This matter isn’t solved, aren’t you still at the restaurant with him? Have you rejected him?”

“No, I'm in the bathroom, but don't worry, your dreary little head, I’m going back now to reject him.”
