I nodded. I had sensed them being as fallen as I.

“So full of greed, always wanting what they shouldn’t have nor need, they no longer see the blessings right in front of them.”

My mouth parted. The devil had just spoken of blessings with a sense of loss.

Still in his arms, I lifted when he shrugged, appearing lost. “I don’t need to conspire to destroy faith. They are destroying each other.”

I started to pant with fear. “What do we do?”

Easily supporting my weight with one arm, he brushed hair from my face. “I’ve started to build an army.” Shame filled his eyes for just long enough for me to see it before he said, “I mean, for the powers I’ve given them they’ve paid, of course.”

I couldn’t help but giggle. “Wouldn’t expect anything different from you, Lu.”

He smiled flirtatiously. “Thank you.”

I smacked his shoulder playfully. “Continue, please.”

He took a deep breath. “I own their souls, but these bikers did it willingly.”

I jerked. “What? Fallen Gods?”

He looked down. “No. I was actually trying to trick them into selling guns, but their cravings were already too far gone.”

The hand that had just smacked Lu now covered my mouth. “Then … why so cruel to Onus?”

He winced as if insulted. “Because I’m selfish as fuck.” He rolled his eyes. “Your love for him is nothing, if not nauseating.”

I grabbed his thick hair and shook his head. “Stop being—”

“What I am? Never.” He tilted his head down to scrutinize me. “How about you?”

Deity pride bloomed in my chest, my chin lifting high. “I will never deny who I am.”

He kissed my nose. “Respect.”

My shoulders relaxed. He was correct. We both were who we were. Nothing was going to change that, but it didn’t mean we couldn’t join forces to find balance again.

Surrendering, I said, “Tell me more about the bikers.”

He grinned. “Royal Bastards. A lot of the chapters are noble. Eccch!” he faked a gag. “But the chapter in Nevada is mine, you could say. They were deadly before me. Now? They are positively lethal and against certain crimes.

I gasped. “Lu, you are pleasing me right now. Like never before.”

His brows wiggled and danced. “I deserve a round in the bed behind you?”

My smile instantly faded. Making love to Onus, without Onus, wasn’t something my heart could withstand.

“A shame,” sighed Lu.

Trying to set aside my own need for others, I asked, “How can I help?”

Dark eyes squinted. “I know what you and Elijah have been up to.”

Cautiously, I pushed against his chest to be put back on my feet. The moment Lu set me down, I backed away, holding my stomach even though it held no child.

“Rhea, relax, and listen to me.”

“My son will be mine—”
