I snarled. “Dead wrong.”

She only giggled more while rolling to her side to face me. “Maybe, but I’m usually correct.” Her smile faded to concern. “In your new physical state, the first orgasm is the hardest to release.”

Clarity hit me as I realized all her sexy behavior was for my benefit. “You were trying to help me past that? Wait...” I exhaled, deeply. “What did you do to me? Why am I so strong now?”

Gently rubbing a finger over my lips, she sounded sad when she replied, “You are now part of who I once was. A part of a broken vow.” She sighed, seemingly a little lost in thought. “A part of my new challenge.”

Huh? “Real answers please.”

With a gentle tone, she kindly replied, “No.”

“But you said you can’t lie to me.”

“And I’m not. I’m just not divulging more information.”

I sneered, “What if I didn’t want this? Whatever is inside me now?”

Her features slackened. “Then you would be dead. And I wouldn’t have you to hold.”

One of the things about Rosa was her honesty. It was so refreshing. I was truly at a loss for how to argue with it. And her wanting to hold me? Unheard of. No one had ever wanted that. Not with me. Ever.

Pulling her to me, I wrapped my arms around her to smother her with affection. Wouldn’t you know it? It felt better than the fantastic sex we were just having. Her being so close was soothing.

“You’re right.” I tightened my hold. “I’d accept having some sort of plague if I had to if it meant getting you like this.”

It was surreal how she stared at me as if I were a good man. “That is why I did what I did. That, the good in you, is why I gave you a part of me I won’t get back until I die.”

Going from a lonely existence to an abundance of care felt like finding the secret to life.

All because of Rosa.

My throat tightening, I said, “I know it makes no sense—feeling so strong for you in one night—”

“We are dancing souls,” she whispered, “Onus.”

Until Rosa, every time my name was spoken it meant I was about to be belittled, ordered about, given ultimatums, or forced to lead men—some who hated me like my father did.

Not when Rosa spoke it, though. There was, dare I say, love connected to it.

“Say it again.” I caressed her bare thigh.

She didn’t hold back. She only gave. “Onus.”

My eyes drifted shut as I kissed her. “Again.”

“Onus,” she whispered, kissing me back.

I pulled her thigh over mine. “Again.”

“Onus.”

I surged my hips.

“Onus.”

I glided inside her perfect channel.

“Onus.”
