I didn’t dare open my eyes. I only spoke of what was in my heart. “Everlastin’.”

Exhale…

I whispered, “I love you.”

Inhale…

The room went quiet.

No one moved.

His rich voice vibrated in my ear, against my face. “I saw you. My golden eagle, flying … to me.”

As cheers erupted, I didn’t move. I didn’t dare. I just nodded, promising, “I will always soar to you.”

Wanting to feel Thunder’s touch, I was surprised to feel a cool, gentle hand on my face. “You did so good.”

The room became silent as Diesel looked up from holding Thunder’s legs. “Rosa?”

From under me, Thunder jolted.

Ever so slowly, I finally opened my eyes to see a picturesque woman who was nothing if not breathtaking. She was tall with gorgeous silky dark hair. So elegant in a long, black, silk nightgown. I instantly understood... This was Thunder’s mother.

Lifting my head to see her more closely, I noticed most everyone in the room was frozen. Literally stock-still, like statues. The only people who weren’t were me, Diesel, Thunder, and … two angels.

I gasped. After all these years of praying, are you helping me Jesus?

One of the angels was with white wings. His face sorrowful.

The other angel was with black wings. He made me afraid. He felt like death.

Frantically, I wrapped my arms around Thunder’s chest, hysteria stealing my breath. “No! You can’t have him! No—”

“Sh…” Like the gentle breeze in the leaves, Rosa soothed me. “Thunder is yours, Eagle. Thank you for shining so bright that he can find you anywhere. Even in death.”

She bent her knees to be near her son. Running long fingers through his hair adoringly, she said, “You are beyond what any mother could hope for. My love for you is boundless.”

With Thunder just laying there, staring at her with unbelieving eyes, I thought he was in shock. That’s when I noticed the angel with black wings was holding his hand up as if paralyzing Thunder.

“Hey!” I yelled angrily.

I gasped when Rosa looked at me, her eyes made of stars. “It’s okay. Thunder is too powerful to set free just yet.”

“W-Why? W-What’s happening?” I asked but got no answer.

Her focus was now on Diesel. Cupping his face, she praised, “Your unconditional love makes you one of the most special humans to walk this earth. I am honored you are his father.”

“Rosa..…” he tried but was denied when the white-winged angel raised his hand toward him.

My heart doubled its already dangerously fast pace. “I don’t understand?” I cried.

A fresh yellow flower appeared in her hand, then she tucked it behind my ear. “You will. Your journey is still rich with findings.” I’ll never forget her smile. It felt like a blessing from the most enlightened being. “Thank you for your final bond with my son today. It has made him even stronger.”

“W-Why am I not paralyzed like…” I looked to Diesel, frozen but awake.

She explained, “To touch you would make Hellion harder to control at the moment. He is already brewing because he knows what’s coming.”

Before I could know what was coming, she stood, her bare feet softly walking around Thunder to Onus. “Your journey, it will not be as rich.”
