“Grab a cupcake.”

“A cupcake?” He stared at me like I had a third eye in the middle of my forehead.

“Yes, grab a cupcake.”

He did as I said with a mechanical move and turned to me frowning when he heard the sound of my phone taking a picture. I had to document it.

“Pina, what the hell are you doing?”

“We’re having a princess tea party.”

He looked at me, then at the little table for kids, at the boa hanging around his neck, then back at me.

“Why?”

“It’s part of your training.”

“Huh? You’re not making any sense.”

“Garon.” My smile spread all over my face. “You’re going to be a girl dad.”

“What are you talking about?”

“We’re having a little girl.”

He froze, the only movement in his body being the rapid blinking. It took two solid minutes for him to digest the information.

“We’re having a girl?” He asked me, stunned.

“Yes.”

In the blink of an eye, he was up on his feet and I was being picked up from the floor.

“I’m having a daughter?” His lips crushed over mine. “How do you know?”

“I saw Dr. Niccolo today.”

“Why? Is everything alright?”

“Yes, it was just a normal check-up.”

“You didn’t tell me.” He finally started to put things together. “Why?”

“Because I wanted you to find out from me.” I confessed. “Are you happy? I thought you’d want a son.”

“No.” He fell to his knees and started kissing my belly. “No, I don’t. I want a girl.Thisgirl!”

He kept his forehead on my stomach and I slowly stroked his hair. To my surprise, I didn’t feel like crying even if everything remotely emotional made me tear up these days. Overwhelming happiness was the only feeling in my heart.

“She’s healthy too.” I told him.

Finally, Garon got back up and chained me in his arms.

“This is amazing. You’re amazing.” He looked at me like I was a deity worthy of being worshiped. “Pina?”

“Yes?”

“Marry me.”
