“Pina…”

“No,” I brushed him off, shaking my hand in his face, “It passed. It was a childish crush.” I lied through my teeth. I loved him and that wasn’t going to pass any time soon, there was just no point in telling him that.

“I would have dragged you into closets a long time ago if I’d have known you wanted it.” He said with a charming smile.

“We both know I’m not the type of girl you go for.”

“What is that supposed to mean?”

“I’ve seen you with women, Garon, and they’re all tall, sexy, glowing and glamorous.”

“You might not be tall,Piccolina, but you are very sexy and very glamorous. And you definitely glow.”

“No, I don’t.” I smiled. I was the forgettable Bernoulli sister.

“Like the sun.” He yawned and cuddled me into his chest. “You’re glowing and warm like the sun.”

“Thank you.” I whispered, almost in tears.

Until the night he kicked me out of his life, Garon was never cruel to me, he was a good friend, but not in my wildest dreams would I have imagined him saying such beautiful words. Now that the sex haze was gone and the clock was ticking for me to get back to my life, listening to him being so sweet was agonizing.

Slowly, Garon started drifting away, his breath leveling while his sleep got deeper. I held him until I was sure he was fast asleep… and then I held him another hour before getting the nerve to peal myself away and get out of the bed.

On my tiptoes, I found the skirt and Garon’s shirt, picked up my shoes and turned off the lights before walking out of the hotel room praying no one would see me. Walking home barefoot and wrapped in a man’s shirt wasn’t a good look on anyone and I’ve dealt with enough for one night.

It was a long walk from the luxurious hotel Garon was staying in to my one bedroom and by the time I got there, tiredness caught up to me. I dragged myself up the stairs all the way to the fourth floor and found the energy to smile when I heard an excited bark coming from behind my door. All my neighbors had complained before that Panini was waking them up late at night when I’d made it home from the club, but his enthusiasm to see me kept me going through the worst days.

The moment I pushed the door open, the dog jumped on my feet, shaking his little butt.

“Hey,bambino12. I’m sorry I was so late tonight.” I looked at his bowls to see he was running low on food.

Panini was a funny looking dog who had a tongue a couple centimeters too long for his mouth, an ear that was bit off by a stray dog, and a wonky walk. My parents got him four Christmases ago as a present for Ariana because she’d decided back then that it was fancy to own a French Bulldog. I was ecstatic because I had been asking them for a dog for years, but my wishes were not as important. Ariana liked Panini for a total of six days before she realized he was a lot of work, had some health problems, and was not as pretty as the ones she’d seen in pictures, so I was the one who ended up walking him, giving his medications, and cleaning out his ear infection. I guess we were both lucky, because I finally got a dog and he got an owner that doesn’t want to carry him in a designer bag all day.

“You are my handsome, handsome baby.” I said while Panini walked by my side, failing to notice the coffee table in the living room and butting his head right into it. “Gosh, you’re so silly.”

Ignoring me, he went to sit next to the cupboard where I was holding his special treats. Usually, I’d give him one when I got home from work, but this time I was late and I could tell he was judging me for it. Well, it was a one-time thing.

Once the dog was happy, I showered the night away and fell flat on my face. I was so exhausted, I couldn’t even feel the lumps in the mattress anymore. I closed my eyes, fell asleep, and dreamed about Garon Caputo.

Chapter 5

Iwoke up from a peaceful sleep with no dreams for the first time in years. It took some time for me to realize that something was missing and Pina was not on the pillow next to me. Her citrus perfume was still lingering on the sheets, but she was nowhere to be found.

I walked around the suite three times to make sure she wasn’t there and couldn’t find any trace of Pina. It angered me that she took off from my arms like a thief when I had plans to keep her on her back with her legs in the air all morning. The raging erection I had didn’t appreciate the delay.

A firm knock on my door distracted me from plotting all the ways I was going to punish Pina, and I found a pair of pants to cover myself. Arno and Santo were on the other side and Arno was holding a tray with coffee and some type of green juice.

“Are you my fucking maid now too?” I mumbled when the man put the tray down on the living room table.

“I told you Boss won’t like hovering.” Santo laughed.

Arno looked at me. “You get headaches without coffee.” He reminded me.

“What about that green thing?”

“I drink it before the gym. It will hydrate you, so drink it.”

It smelled like lemon and celery, but I drank it all without second thought. Arno was a health freak and I believed him when he said that green vomit would hydrate me. It wasn’t half bad either.
