We don’t ever talk directly about the heirloom linked to the lycanthropy, but we’ve always been looking for it. Finding it in among the Chicago ranks will be huge for us. It’ll really put us on the map. But unfortunately, we don’t knowexactlywhat it looks like. It’s been so many years since anyone laid eyes on it.

Wewillfind it though that’s for sure. We won’t stop until we do. The guys around me might be shaking their heads right now, but that’s okay. Iwillget my hands on it. I’m not worried.

“Right fine,” I say with a sigh. “Get some rest now. We will go in the morning. Or as soon as we wake up anyway. Get this Gray shit under control before it becomes a problem.”

There’s a weird energy around us, which I hope isn’t there in the morning. I much prefer it when we’re a team, working well together, getting shit done...

The cleaning crewgot everything done while we were asleep. It’s almost like walking into a brand new home. Thank God because that really did put me in a shitty mood after the ridiculous, over-the-top party.

I hope I don’t need to do that again anytime soon... although the party wasn’tallbad. Remembering my little moment sneaking off with that smoking hot redhead, Clara, brings a smile to my face right now. God, she was a lot of fun, wasn’t she? The virgin who made my heart sing and my cock twitch. I know I didn’t get a chance to explore her as much as I wanted to, but Iknowthe time will come, so I’m not too worried about it.

She really is mine. As in, I felt it… that we’re mated. She belongs to me, and I to her.

Once all of this drama is over and done with, I’m taking her out on a date, and making Clara understand that me and her... we can’t fight it. It’sus.

“Ah, you’re up.” Cain is sitting in the corner of the living room, looking like he’s been awake for hours, winding himself up like crazy. “Good, I think we need to get going. I have been thinking about everything, and how quickly we need to get this done. It’s now. If Gray was bragging about his strong soldiers, and there’s any chance it’s true, then we need to act now. Like, we don’t want any threat to us and where we are, do we? I keep thinking about it, and we really don’t know much about them. I don’t like that.”

I let my smile falter because I know my hot-headed friend won’t like it if he thinks I’m not taking him seriously. “Yeah, I know. I get it. We do need to take action now. Once everyone is up, we’ll eradicate the threat.”

“What’s the plan?” Cain leans forward, his elbows on his knees, while he tries to work me out. His attention all on me right now is a little intense when I’ve just woken up after a heavy night, but often I need this kick up the ass to never let things slide... not that I ever would.

I grab a mug of coffee from the machine sitting in my dining room for convenience before I take a seat and engage with this conversation. “Every pack has stronger and weaker members. Much as we want to eradicate the Grays, we also don’t want the other packs to turn on us. We don’t want to be seen as a threat to them, potentially about to take them all out.”

Cain nods in agreement. “Yeah, you’re right. We need the others on our side, so we can bring them under our fray. So how do we do it? Just attack the strong ones?”

“Basically, just attack the ones who come at us and retaliate. Use it as a warning. I think that way, we can either send the weaker members of the pack out of here, get them to leave Chicago, or we can get them working for us.”

Cain frowns. “We don’t want weak wolves working for us.”

“Sometimes there is strength in numbers. I think we should consider that too.”

I know he doesn’t like it, but Cain will have to accept it. My word is law in our world. I wouldn’t lead us wrong anyway. I haven’t so far, so there’s no reason for him to start thinking that I’m going to begin fucking up now.

“Morning... or afternoon, whatever it is.” Much to my relief, Sledge appears, shattering the tension of the moment before Cain can get too irritated. “Are we planning our next move?”

“We sure are.” I lean back in my seat a little. “We’ll be heading out soon. I actually need to call Maxfield to make sure everyone is with us on this attack. Since we don’t know how many wolves the Gray clan actually has, we need to outnumber them by a lot.”

I leave Cain with Sledge to talk through the plans, while we await Adam to join us. They are the closest guys to me, the ones who have been in the pack forever, but I don’t think we can do this alone. We’re going to need a lot of guys from the lower ranks to make this work. Maxfield and his crew are the ones I go to first for this sort of mission. They might usually be involved with pettier activities, but I can rely on them for anything.

“Mason, I just wanted to catch you for a moment.” Adam surprises me by touching my arm. I thought he was still sleeping, but obviously not. “If you don’t mind.”

“No, go on, go for it.”

This is quite common for Adam. He sometimes pulls me to the side to talk things through. I don’t know if it’s because he prefers to do so in private or if he thinks I might want to discuss things without the others. Either way, I don’t mind.

“Well, the Grays... do you really think there is no other way we can work things out with them? I don’t want innocent wolves to get caught in the midst of this.”

“We aren’t going to harm anyone who doesn’t fight us,” I reassure him. “We’re only going to take down the strongest ones to make sure they don’t become a threat. The offer to join us will be there for everyone else. There’s no need to worry.”

Adam nods, but he doesn’t seem certain either. “Okay, because if there are young ones...”

“No one will be hurt unless they present a threat to us, I promise you.”

I smile at him before I continue to call Maxfield. Cain and Adam are both going to have to trust me. Everything will work out just as it’s supposed to. They’ll see soon enough...
