“Then that’s all that matters. I will say that your mom and I were shocked how this all happened, but we’ve seen how happy Dyllan makes you, and we couldn’t be happier. We wish we could’ve been around more for you…”

“Dad, stop. You and Mom can’t just drop your lives for me,” she said, placing a hand on his arm.

“Still, you’re our only child and we should have made more of an effort to visit.” He patted her hand.

“I appreciate that, and Dyllan and I want to come visit Toronto as soon as we can too.”

“I’d like that,” he added, giving her hand a squeeze and placing it on the crook of his elbow. “Now, let’s get you married. Again.”

Skylar giggled as she was led out of her bedroom and out the back sliding doors into the trees. She’d had her team set up a makeshift altar by the creek in their backyard, fairy lights strung throughout the trees, giving the yard an ethereal feel. The red aisle paved a way through the rows of white folding chairs, each row strung with white and pink tulle garlands. All of their friends and family filled the chairs, all turning to see her as she stood at the foot of the aisle.

Her eyes locked on the gorgeous pair of chocolate brown eyes at the other end. Standing underneath the wooded arch draped in tulle, lights and flowers, Dyllan never looked more handsome than he did dressed in his tan linen pants, matching blazer and white button-up shirt.

“You ready?” her dad asked.

“You bet,” she answered with a smile.

Making her way down the aisle as slowly as her excited body would let her, she felt her dad tug on her arm as he chuckled, holding her back from running a full sprint to her husband. By the look of the way Zach had his hand on Dyllan’s shoulder, he’d had the same idea.

A few steps later, they were reunited, Travis chuckling as he stood between them. “You know you’ve been married for a year, right?”

“Shut it, Langston,” Dyllan said, shaking his father-in-law’s hand before turning to his bride. “You look beautiful, babydoll.”

“Thank you, Grumpy Bear,” she said, taking his hand.

Travis moved through the vows and promises they made to each other, cracking jokes where he could, living up the fact he’d been asked to be the one to marry them. Not able to look away from her husband, it all felt like a dream as she tried to take in every moment.

Vows said and promises made, their wedding bands were slipped onto their fingers when they said their last round of ‘I do’s.’

“You may now kiss your bride,” Travis said as he closed the book in his hands.

“Come here, wife,” Dyllan growled, grabbing her around the waist and pulling her to him.

“Yes, husband,” she said as he dipped her and gave her a kiss that made her blush.

Dyllan

Resting his hip against the bar, Dyllan looked over the tables as he took a sip of his scotch. The massive tent transformed his backyard into what he could only describe as ‘Skylar.’ Each table had a centrepiece of cut wood, flowers and candles. Some sort of sheer fabric draped along the top of the tent with little lights she’d called ‘fairies’ or something just as girly. All he knew was it made her happy, and that’s all he cared about.

“Uncle Dyllan!” Thomas yelled as he wove his way through the couples on the dance floor.

Scarcely having enough time to place his glass on the bar before catching the flying boy, he picked him up and gave him a big bear hug.

“Hey, bud. Are you having fun?” Dyllan asked, laughing.

“Yeah! Mom’s letting us stay up late and everything!” Thomas exclaimed as Dyllan put him down. He lowered his voice as his gaze became sterner. “But Uncle Dyllan, did you really have to kiss a girl?”

Dyllan threw his head back and laughed before placing his hand on the boy’s shoulder. “Yeah, bud. I did.”

“Gross,” Thomas said, scrunching up his face.

“Hey, Uncle Dyllan,” Maddox said, bumping his knuckles against Dyllan’s. The nine-year-old’s attitude was much calmer toward the event than his little brother’s.

“Congratulations, Dyllan,” Deanna said, giving him a hug. “I’m so happy for you. I know you’ve been married for a while, but I’m so happy we were here to see it this time.”

“I’m glad you were here, too.” He gave her a smile as she stepped back.

“Hey, guys!” Skylar said, giving Deanna a hug. “I’m so happy you’re here!”
