Silver turned to look at each of us in turn, his eyes haunted but full of compassion until they landed on mine and stuck. His voice was soothing, lulling me into a false sense of security. Begging me to lean into his waiting arms. Instead, I scowled back at him.

My fiercest look only sent a small, flashing smile chasing across his lips before they settled back into a somber tilt.

“You will be returned to your loved ones swiftly. Do not mistake us for the animals that took you. The Bone Crushers are the lowest of our kind. If any of you choose to stick around—” Silver’s steady gaze was boring into me now, plying me with silent messages, ”—then I hope we will prove through our hospitality that the Soul Reapers are very different beasts, though we shift into wolves all the same.”

Then the man flashed me a flirty wink—so quick, I was sure I’d imagined it—and turned back to his alpha while pointing a finger over the crowd at Sgt. at Arms, still smoldering in the doorway.

“Prez, permission to fuck my mate sideways and mate him like an animal.”

With that bold declaration, to which most of the room howled with laughter, I felt Mongrel’s attention lock onto his mate. The large male growled, low and lethal and full of unmistakable want. I have no idea how I heard him over the good-natured bedlam but I did.

Holy shit. How could the Sgt. at Arms’ lust for another man be even hotter than his deadly attention riveted on me?

Grimm smirked, as if the three of them were sharing an old joke, and drawled, “Sure thing, Silver. Right after we get our guests situated.”

Silver cupped his balls and groaned. “Are you fucking shitting me, Prez? These bastards are ready to detonate!”

Grimm merely rolled his eyes and punched the wolf in the arm. Hard. “You’ll keep.”

Then the alpha turned and stalked off. Alrighty then. Meeting adjourned.

My fellow captives and I stood there in stunned silence while the room around us—and the world in general—went about their daily lives. The MC had gone from respectfully listening to their boss to a rowdy bunch of idiots enjoying a night out at the pub in the blink of an eye. However, not a single one of those wolves invaded the little section we’d carved out for ourselves.

We were a hop, skip and a jump from the exit.

Even the broody Sgt. at Arms had disappeared, clearing our path to freedom.

The crazy notion blazed in my mind that we could walk right out that door and no one would say a word to stop us. The choice was ours. Every nerve in my body itched to try out my theory and yet that tiny feeling of gravity—yoking me to three stupidly sexy bikers—gave me pause.

Meanwhile, the MC and their groupies carefully ignored us. Giving us the room to take in our surroundings and study the room in our own time.

It was eerily effective because I could feel the tension sloughing off me and the rest of the former captives in waves. It felt good to be ignored. To be treated like just another gal or guy in the room. Not a prized possession. Nor a trouble maker. Just a few people taking up their own modest sliver of the world.

Rounding on us from the doorway, the Prez shot me an exasperated look and nodded in the direction he was going. I had the infuriating urge to hop to it. So, naturally, I dug my heels in. If I truly was a free agent then I was done taking orders from surly males. They could learn to use their manners like the rest of us.

“I think the alpha wants us to follow him, don’t you?” I yelped. Silver had managed to sneak up on me, again. That wolf moved fast. I scowled at the omega and his cheeky grin only grew. “You must be tired. And hungry. Shall we see what majestical lodgings our fearless leader is prepared to offer as your gracious host?”

FUCK ME SIDEWAYS

I stalked up the stairs. The beast inside me was ready to grab our mate by the haunches and drag her off to our den. I’d never had such an uncomfortable hard on—one which I had no interest in slaking, despite the abundant club pussy on offer—in my life.

Priceless. All it took was one Chaos to prove that not only was I just as much of a monster as my ill-begotten sire, but I was a hypocrite to boot.

This little revelation did not sit well with me.

I’d just given our entire pack a lecture on consent, meanwhile my animal gave zero fucks about whether his chosen mate was interested. He was a predator in the height of his prime and the unchallenged alpha of a thriving pack. According to him, Sasha was lucky to be his alpha mate.

To add salt to the wound, it drove him fucking wild that she refused to submit.

Every time he tried to assert his dominance, that woman—a mere human, no less—dug in and met him claw for claw. Sasha didn’t know the meaning of submission. When I’d snapped at one of her people, she’d practically dared my wolf to fight her. If she’d been a wolf, she would’ve laid down an alpha challenge then and there. And, to complete the mind-fuck of it all, I wasn’t even sure who would come out on top.

The human alpha may have less brawn but she was quick-witted and fiercely committed to her cause. She’d claimed those humans as her people and now she would protect them with her dying breath.

No, Sasha wasn’t afraid of getting into a dog fight she couldn’t win. The only thing that terrified her was the thought of losing that challenge and leaving her people vulnerable to further harm.
