There, on the ground, lay my cousin. Naked, like he’d just changed back after battle, and his hands pressed into a gut wound which glistened as life pumped uselessly from his broken body. My wolf howled in pain as it confirmed the horrible truth my stupid brain was failing to put together.

“The fuck?” I growled. “Why aren’t you healing?”

“Silver. Hurts like a bitch, too,” Benji chuckled mirthlessly again, spilling fresh blood onto the floor.

“Stop talking,” hissed the girl cradling my cousin’s head in her lap.

Fresh tears tracked down her cheeks as she did her best to help Benji keep pressure on the wound. This must be the girl my cousin had been so desperate to save, the one he’d insisted was his mate. That made the fierce one hovering protectively between me and my fallen cousin his mate’s younger sister.

“When the Chaos struck, Crusher made me for a traitor. Pussy,” Benji ignored his mate’s order but I saw him squeeze her hand in reassurance as he forced out a brief explanation. “Took me out before heading downstairs. Silver to the gut, followed by a bullet to make sure.”

“But you took care of the rest?” I asked in surprise—the kid had sure grown balls since we’d last seen each other.

I shook off the useless question. I had to get Benji out of here. The building wasn’t going to last long.

“Not by myself,” Benji replied as I came to my senses, put away my piece and began to stride to my cousin’s side. “Think I need a nap, Mongrel.”

“Stay right fucking there,” snapped the little hellion, raising her weapon and stepping into my space rather than backing away.

Slow and steady, I walked right up to her, hands raised and letting the knife press into my gut. Couldn't do anything about the growl in my chest. My wolf needed to get close so it could assess the damage to its kin.

“S’all right, Addy,” Benji wheezed. Fuck, he sounded like he was about to pass out. “Told you help was coming. That scary mutt is my cousin.”

“Tell your cousin he’s late,” snarled Addy.

I gave her a mirthless smile, disarmed her in a lightning fast move, then handed the knife right back to the shocked girl, hilt first. “If I wanted you dead, Addy, I would’ve put a bullet in you as soon as I crashed this party. But thank you.”

“For what?” Addy grumbled, snatching back her prize of war with bad grace.

“For protecting my kin,” I growled. “Now you’re stuck with me because I owe you and your sister a life debt. Now let’s get this wolf out of here so I can whoop his sorry ass for trying to join the Bone Crushers.”

I stripped off my shirt and bound Benji’s wound. Thankfully, my cousin had fallen unconscious. That should make this next bit easier on all of us. I turned and pulled out one of my guns, holding it out for the girl to take.

Buying herself time, Addy quipped. “Suggestions for the knife?”

I grinned, still holding out my second favorite piece for her to take. “Not in my back.”

“In the panties it is!”

I shook my head and looked up at the ceiling—where the smoke was now gathering at head height—as she put away the knife then reached for the weapon.

“Know how to use this?” I asked, not letting it go.

“Sure. Point, pull and kill a motherfucker.”

I chuckled and let it go. “That’s about right. Just don’t shoot me or one of my brothers.”

She shrugged and flicked her hair over her shoulder. “Hate to break it to you, cousin, but I won’t be checking. If a psycho comes running at me, Talia, or Benji, they’re going down.”

I didn’t call her on the fact that she’d basically declared I was on my own. “Fair enough. Help your sister and I’ll take this lug. Ready?”

I didn’t give either of the girls time to consider my question. Addy had done well but Talia was on the verge of panic. The emaciated girl looked like a human matchstick, ready to go up in the blaze pressing in on us from all sides. The fire was moving fast now and we had to bust a move. If my cousin was to have a hope in hell of surviving a silver wound to his gut, he needed these girls—both of them—to survive.

Not having time to be gentle, I picked up Benji, princess style. The guy couldn’t have been completely out cold because I heard him grumble about being hazed before he went limp again. Behind me, I heard his mate growl in protest. Looked like the Blood Moon Goddess was making this meek little mouse fierce. Good, Talia would need some fire in her belly to make it out of here alive.

I turned and glared at Addy as I saw her bend down to scoop up Benji’s Bone Crusher cut. She shrugged, “We’re a little low on clothes, and this place is toast.”

“I’ll get you clothes, woman. You won’t be wearing a Bone Crushers’ cut. The Bone Crushers MC won’t exist at the end of this night.”
