“Ready, kitten?” Silver asked, pressing a sweet kiss to his claiming mark on my shoulder. His wolf wasn’t nearly so polite because he quickly nipped the skin drawing another ragged groan from my throat. I nodded, unable to speak. “Good. Because Mongrel was right. This one is going to be wild and fast. My beast will tear out of me if I don’t get a move on.”

My only reply was a soft, indulgent growl as I relaxed further into their embrace.

Despite the fierce declaration, Mongrel and Silver set a slow and steady rhythm at first, carefully listening to my body for signs of discomfort or distress. I sighed and wrapped an arm around Silver behind me while resting my burning cheek on Mongrel’s broad chest. Soon enough their wildness took over and they were sawing in and out of me as I arched into the delicious battery of sensations assaulting my senses.

I screamed, raking nails over flesh as I came. Blacking out from pleasure and overwhelming happiness as they howled and sunk their teeth into my skin, renewing their claim. My wolf sunk her teeth quickly into both of their forearms, one after the other, not even caring who she reaffirmed first, knowing it would make no difference to my mates.

We were one. There was no separation.

An impatient snarl from the bedroom cut through our soft landing as I tenderly licked their flesh to help seal the already healing wounds.

“Alpha’s calling,” Mongrel rumbled. He waggled his eyebrows as his eyes lit up with supreme male satisfaction that my other mate had overheard us in the throes of ecstasy.

“Brute,” I smacked playfully at my beta’s chest.

“Don’t you forget it, baby.”

Even as we bantered, my heart rolled as the gentle omega at my back went rigid.

“Better not keep alpha waiting,” Silver muttered, trying to keep the bitterness from his voice.

Mongrel’s eyes flashed with protective rage, banked almost as quickly as it had come. I reached up and cupped his cheek in understanding trying to communicate without words that I planned to fix this. He gave me a nod.

With a final lick at my torn skin, Silver pulled away and retrieved a washcloth to clean me up. Then he helped me out of the bath and sighed heavily as he wrapped me up in a fluffy towel like a burrito. I rolled my eyes at him and snuck in a lightning kiss before Mongrel swept me off my feet and carried me out of the bathroom.

I grabbed Silver’s wrist and waited until his sad gaze raised from the floor to meet mine. “It won’t always be this way,” I promised.

“Won’t it?” Silver’s bittersweet smile was devastating in its easy acceptance, though I could feel the ache in his soul as if it were my own. “I think I know my alpha better than most. Grimm wasn’t made to share.”

He leaned forward and pressed a sweet kiss to silence my protest.

“Don’t worry, kitten. Mongrel is good at snuggling and you need time with your alpha. I understand.”

A soft growl of frustration left my throat as Mongrel stalked out of the room before the little dagger of loss in Silver’s heart could twist any further.

My heart rolled at the sweet oath being exchanged and the worry digging its claws into my mate’s soft heart. I searched the pack bond and tried to send reassurance to my omega but pulled up short. There was a new wall between us, solid as a rock.

My wolf growled, instinctively hating the distance.

Silver was a vital member of my pack, a presence I’d come to rely upon to keep me steady in times of turmoil. We needed our omega.

Being the dominant asshole he was, my wolf immediately tried to break through. To force our connection. But Silver had his shields locked down tight, protecting himself from further pain.

Pain I’d been inflicting on him as I’d awkwardly navigated this complicated four-way mating.

Well, fuck. Now I really feel like shit.

I knew we’d been going through a rough patch, but how had I let it get this bad?

Like a punch to the sternum, I stumbled back then steadied myself, preparing to meet the simmering Mongrel. My Sgt. at Arms was carefully siphoning his displeasure from the mating bond and pouring it all the way down our pack bond. Letting me have it without even uttering a word.

I didn’t fight back, merely absorbed his punishment. It was well-deserved. I’d caused one of my most treasured wolves—one of my brothers—to doubt his place at my side and deprived him of an essential part of this mating.
