With a nod from me, Mongrel and Carbon erupted from our cover moving swiftly in opposite directions into the fray.

Mongrel leapt onto the back of a passing Bone Crusher. I followed in his wake, silver knife at the ready. As soon as the man was toppled from his ride, my former Sgt. at Arms was onto his next target, latching onto his leg and pulling him into a slide.

I patted down the glassy-eyed biker at my feet and tucked his gun into the back of my jeans, then moved onto the next. A swift stab quietened his curse of complaint as I stripped him of his weapon. Then I rose from my crouch and shot the bastard who was spinning in a tight circle, spraying gravel everywhere, and aiming his gun at Carbon’s head.

The mindless carnage stacked up around us. Friend or foe? As we fought on, it became harder and harder to tell. The dead and wounded bled out alone as the battle raged on around them.

HOLD YOUR GROUND

My heart was set to explode but I knew one thing for damn sure. Venom was a dead man. That fucker just shot my mate in cold blood while staring Grimm down like a demented fucking clown. Not even paying Sasha the respect she deserved as he tried to snuff out our brightest star.

Mongrel had shifted at the sound of the gun going off and I didn’t fucking blame him for giving over to his animal’s rage. I’d only kept my human form by the skin of my teeth because I was needed. Soon I would be drowning in a river of our enemy’s blood right alongside my beta.

I caught our mate’s body as she unraveled in an annoyed huff of breath, surrendering briefly to gravity, but that fierce light inside her never even wavered. Sasha gripped my shirt, her knuckles white with fury as she pressed on the gut wound to stem the flow. Though Mongrel and I were holding onto our sanity by a thread, we remained firmly rooted to the here and now by our little alpha’s fierce rage.

“That fucker,” she wheezed.

Despite the circumstances, I couldn’t help but chuff a laugh. Trust Sasha to spare a precious breath cursing out the asshole who’d just tried to kill her. “Yeah, here you were making a bold statement to Mr. High-and-Mighty and then Mr. Boner Killer just up and shoots you.”

“Some people have no class,” Sasha agreed. “Still, we can’t sit around and chit chat all day. Wanna get me in that van, my sexy mate?”

Sasha’s spicy determination was a bloodthirsty call to our animals. And, although I was no longer a part of the Soul Reapers’ pack bond, I could feel Grimm’s primal rage beating in heady unison with her will. A mighty force—perhaps fueled by the Chaos but driven by the unique powerhouse of two alpha mates working in tandem—wrapped itself around every person gathered and brought us together for a common cause.

To take down our enemy.

The wolf inside my skin was more than willing to answer our alphas’ potent cry. First, I had a job to do. I forced everything else out of my mind and focused on getting my injured mate and our most vulnerable people to safety.

“I’ve got you sweetheart,” I growled, hauling her toward the still open door of the van right as the front windshield was blown out.

“Get us out of here!” I screamed to Viola over the rapid fire.

Viola gave me a determined nod. Instead of flooring it for the gate as I’d intended, however, the woman shoved the stick into reverse and backed straight for the main bar. As the van jolted to life, a foul-smelling canister came flying through the front windshield.

“Addy!”

“On it.” Addy dove on the canister and chucked it out the window, coughing and spluttering as her nose and eyes copped it. “Holy shit. That’s rancid.”

“Welcome to the downside of your new super sniffer, wildcat.”

“Everybody brace!” Viola yelled.

The humans around me did their best to obey as the ass end of the van exploded through the brick work of the clubhouse.

“What the actual fuck, Viola?” I howled as Sasha hissed in pain. “Are you trying to get us all dead?”

“Nope. But that’s exactly what we’d be if we tried to make a break for it, omega. The Bone Crushers are right outside those gates waiting to pick us off like fish in a barrel. At least in the compound we stand a chance.”

I grimaced and shook my head, trying to get the cobwebs out. I’d been trained for this shit for fuckssake but all I could see was Sasha’s blood. It was everywhere, staining the world red as my wolf whimpered and snarled for vengeance inside.

“All right. You heard, Vi,” Addy growled from the doorway of the van. “Everybody out.”

Addy and Winter grabbed the first of our people and hurried them inside while Benji laid down cover. Carbon’s wolf had already claimed his skin at the same time as the wolf tore out of Mongrel. In the background, I could hear Grimm laying down orders as he took control of the courtyard.

I carried Sasha inside as gently as I could, trying not to jostle my mate any more than necessary. Viola hugged our back, weapon drawn.
