“Don’t kid yourself, Grimm. This fight ain’t done. I heard the gossip. Chains might be dead, but Venom is coming for us.” Ice trickled down my spine as my mate echoed my earlier sentiments. “He’s just as depraved as Chains ever was and that bastard has the brains to back it up. And Crusher? He might not be the sharpest tool in the shed but he wields a wicked set of claws.”

“Sasha, I swear to you, I won't let them hurt you again.” I spun in place, putting my hands up and surrendering to the beautiful terror in front of me. “I will give you anything you want. I will fucking mate you, woman, but please—please—don’t ask me for the wolf. I would rather cut off my own arm than destroy you like that.”

“I’m not looking for a pity claim, Grimm. I’m here asking to be treated like an equal.” Her smile was broken but strong as she looked at me one last time. “I’m sorry you can’t see that.”

She reached up on tip-toe and kissed me on the cheek. That sweet act of kindness lanced like a red hot poker right through my middle, making me want to curl over in pain. The finality of it was a silver bullet ripping through my heart.

“I’ll say goodbye in the morning before we leave, alpha. Make sure the wolves that decide to come with us hand in their notice or whatever shit they need to do. Make this a clean break. And hey, maybe one of my mates will give me the wolf I’ve always felt living inside. I guess we’ll leave it up to the Blood Moon Goddess to decide. ”

“Not one of my wolves,” I growled, grabbing her by the arm.

Her body collided with mine as I drew my mate's scent deep into my lungs, tucking it away like a thief in the dark depths of my soul.

“Are you so sure that Mongrel and Silver are still yours, Grimm?” Sasha spoke softly now as she tipped her head up to me, her lips so close I could almost feel them. “‘Cause last I checked it was my pussy they were licking, not yours.”

“Damn you, woman,” I growled. “Why must you fight me every step of the way?!”

“Because I’m your mate.”

A lethal rattle bellowed from my chest as I crushed our mouths together.

Our lips warred for dominance—as per fucking usual—but she thrust her tongue between mine and conquered me with everything that was Sasha.

Our teeth clashed as I drowned in her taste, mingling it with my own. A unique combination as we bit and ate at each other.

Goddess, I needed more of this woman. Needed her more than oxygen. Needed her intoxicating strength to flood into every corner of my soul, to patch up all the broken bits that were leaking lifeblood into the thirsty soil at my feet.

Sasha stepped into my darkest places and lit them up with a wild sweetness I had no defense for. This bold warrior of the heart was ready to take over every bit of ground I relinquished and still grab more. She could have it all. She could own me if she wanted.

Before I knew it, I had my mate pinned to the wall and her legs wound themselves around my hips. Something had shifted in our kiss. The rush and thrill of our blood had burst open the dam of resistance we’d both worked so hard to build.

Now my mate opened herself up completely to me. Unfortunately, my hard cock was still trapped in my jeans but it sought the heat of her core all the same. That was easily fixed. I reached down to tear the buttons of my fly open.

My wolf scratched at my skin in excitement. The hunt was over. We were finally going to do it. To claim our mate while she was loose and pliable in our arms. We would make her ours.

But nothing had changed. One fucking kiss hadn’t solved this stalemate. Hadn’t changed her mind. If I gave into Sasha now, my newly claimed mate would only be more determined than ever to stand at my side.

As a wolf.

With a frustrated growl, I tore my lips from hers and dropped her back to her feet.

“There is no fucking way that I—or anybody else who gives a damn about you—would willingly infect you with a wolf. But I bet you already knew that or you wouldn’t have come crying to me.” I took the two steps to the door and wrenched it open. “Get out.”

UNTOUCHABLE

Sasha

My feet wouldn’t move fast enough. I needed to get out, get away. Be anywhere but stuck in a room—in this compound—with that man. My heart was beating like a trapped animal in my chest, battering at the hopeless black hole the Soul Reapers’ alpha had wrapped around our future.

That was the problem, though, wasn’t it? Grimm didn’t see a future for us. At least, not one worth fighting for.

My fingers ran over my aching lips.

Moments ago, the Prez had owned these lips. Fused them with his own like he couldn’t bear for us to be parted. Not even for a second, let alone a lifetime. He’d held me so tight against his chest that I’d foolishly believed we were finally breaking through whatever barrier he’d built around his heart.

I’d melted into him, then. Given over a piece of my soul to the power that was Grimm. The protector. And I thought he would keep that part of me safe. Would guard it with his life. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
