Hanging up, I shove the phone back in my pocket and open the door for her.

Once I’m inside, I grip the wheel and swear, “We’ll find him.”

She nods once and stares out the window. I try talking to her a couple of times, but she’s not listening.

Chaos, Mayhem, and Riot are already parked up out front. When she sees them, she asks, “Why are they here?”

“The club is out looking for Thomas. They won’t stop until he’s back home with you.”

She visibly relaxes and opens her door. Walking by them, she lets herself into the house without a word.

“Did the school have anything for us to go on?” Mayhem asks.

“Not a fucking thing. The police saw my patches and asked if I had anything to do with it. The principal asked if Evie knew anyone from prison who would want to get at her. They seem to be trying to shift the blame from themselves.”

“I spoke with Lizzie. She said the school will do everything they can.”

“No offence, brother, but if anything happens to him because they failed to keep him safe, I’ll burn the fucking place to the ground.”

“Come on, Psy.”

“No. I’m trying real fucking hard to keep my shit together right now. If the kid doesn’t make it home, I’ll tear this fucking town apart until I find him.”

An unmarked police car arrives, and two women climb out, side-eyeing us as they go up and knock on Evie’s door.

“I should go in and be with her.”

“As soon as we hear anything, you’ll be the first to know,” Chaos informs me, preparing to leave.

My phone rings. I pull it out of my pocket, but I don’t recognise the number.

“Yeah?”

“Watching the anguish on your bitch’s face has brought a genuine smile to my face.”

My neck snaps as I look up and down the street. I’ve memorised the cars belonging to Evie’s neighbours, as well as their faces. I don’t see anything or anyone out of place.

“Who the fuck is this?”

Chaos, Mayhem, and Riot go quiet, knowing something’s wrong.

“I’m sure you remember my brother, Jack Bowman, and now you’ll remember me. I’ve been watching you for a long fucking time, and I’ve seen that the boy and his mum are special to you. You took my brother from me, so now, I take what’s important to you.”

“If you know anything about me, then you know I’m going to kill you.”

“If you can find me.”

The line goes dead. I go to launch my phone into the street, then quickly realize that if I do, I’ll have no way of him contacting me again.

Mayhem raises his brow in question. “Who was on the phone, Psy?”

Turning to my brothers, I take the deepest fucking breath of my life and tell them, “A couple of years ago, I was hired to take out a guy called Jack Bowman, a man who owed the wrong people a lot of money. He went on to be a witness for the police to get out of paying up, and I took him out. That was his brother on the phone. He has Thomas.”

“What’s his name?”

“Something Bowman. He didn’t give it.”

Chaos nods to Riot, who gets on the phone to Keys, our brother who deals with the club’s technical shit, to find out everything he can on the man I’m going to kill the second I get my hands on him.

“Are you going to tell Evie?” Mayhem asks.

“Tell me what?”

We all turn around, and fuck, she’s standing on her front path. None of us heard her come out.
