“Naughty little rabbit. I want to hear you when you come, Caera.”

Her heels dug into the mattress, instincts taking over. Her hips fell as he withdrew, rose when he drove back into her. A new and wonderful dance she was learning off by heart.

Saul pushed himself up, bracing himself over her, changing the angle again for more leverage. Her hands moved down to his hips, feeling the power of his thrusts as he chased her pleasure for a third time, hunting his own in the process. “Come with me, Caera. Come now.”

It was too soon, too close on the heels of the last, but he really wasn’t asking. No, it was definitely a demand as he rutted into her for a half-dozen strokes before filling her completely, grinding deep and sending her spinning into the fury of orgasm right beside him.

The shout that scored her throat was raw, almost a howl forming his name.

Shuddering, she melted into the mattress, sure Saul would come crashing down on top of her at any moment, but too shocked to care. His groan was punctuated, accompanying the subtle twitches of his pelvis, and those goddamn eyes of his never left hers.

The muscles in his arms trembled, the only things keeping him from collapsing, but as the rigidity in his body eased, he simply grinned lazily and bent to kiss her swollen mouth. “Little rabbit, you’ve been well and truly caught now. How do you feel?”

Breath hitching, Caera stared up at him. Honestly, she didn’t know. He was still inside her and the sweat on her skin was still wet. Aftershocks of rapture fluttered through her limp body like tiny electric shocks, her pussy desperately clenching and releasing around his cock as though it could resuscitate his erection for a second round.

Saul huffed out a soft laugh and kissed her again. “That good it rendered you mute, huh? That’s okay. I’m going to pull out now, and get rid of the condom. You were perfect, bunny,” he murmured against her lips, then eased away carefully.

She bit her lip as he slipped free, leaving her distressingly empty. The instant he was no longer inside her, she felt as though she’d just lost one of the most important connections she’d ever have.

She just couldn’t find her voice to tell him.

The bed shifted as Saul climbed off it, then set a knee on the mattress so he could run his hand over her sweat-dampened hair. “Do you need anything?”

You.

Caera shook her head, then nearly cried when he ran the backs of his fingers over her cheek lovingly. When he reached down and yanked the duvet up and over her exhausted body, she burrowed into it and watched as he stepped away to remove the condom and tug on his briefs.

“I’ll be back in a minute, bunny,” he promised, then quietly left the room.

Holy fuck, he’d ruined her.

Tentatively, she touched herself. Her breath seized for a moment when her fingers encountered soft, warm flesh wet with the evidence of sex. It seemed vaguely impossible that she’d finally achieved a personal goal, but the swollen labia and slight gape of her entrance was more than enough proof to convince her she wasn’t dreaming.

The sob came out of nowhere, surprising her.

She’d had sex with a man who loved her, sharing physical intimacy without drowning in anxiety, and now…now she was a goddamn wreck. Turning her face into the pillow, she tried to hide her tears and muffle the painful breaths threatening to become keening cries.

God, could she be any more stupid? Saul hadn’t hurt her, he hadn’t given her a reason to be afraid. On the contrary, he’d wiped her slate clean and offered her an opportunity to grow from naïve girl into evolutionary woman.

So what the hell was wrong with her?

“Goddamn it.”

The unhappy curse made her lift her head, just as Saul closed the door and hurried over to her. He dumped a couple of bottled waters and a handful of cookies on the bedside table along with a washcloth, then he was sliding under the covers and tucking her into his side.

For a while he said nothing at all, just made reassuring noises and stroked her until the worst of her crying jab ebbed. When she was down to wet sniffles and hiccupping breaths, he sighed.

“Guess that was a bigger shock to the system than I thought. How long did you last before you broke? Ten seconds?”

Her hiccup was sad. “Three.”

“Oh, bunny. Don’t worry about it, you’re not the first person to cry after having sex. As long as I haven’t hurt you…” When she shook her head, he relaxed. “That’s good. I’d hate to kick my own ass, then hand myself over to the sadist. I don’t think he’d be merciful.”

Caera swiped angrily at her face. “I’m sorry. I don't know why I did that.”

“Orgasms are excellent stress relievers, and God knows you’ve got enough shit bottled up inside you to rival a chunk of C4. It’s just part of being human, Caera, and a big step in the healing process.” His tone was kind, too kind, and almost set her off again. “Let me clean you up and get some water in you. Between sweating and crying, you must be desperate for a drink.”

Arguing against the truth was a waste of time. Relinquishing her grip on him, Caera sat up slowly as he did, taking the bottle he offered once he removed the cap. Her hands weren’t quite steady when they brought the bottle to her lips, and the tremor in them deepened as he pushed the covers down past her knees.
