Tall, dark, handsome, and funny. And a gentleman. Almost forgot that one.

“So that’s the secret to your success, eh? Talking to your rollercoaster.”

“Well, when you put it like that, it sounds weird.”

I held my hands up. “Hey, I don’t judge. I only need to know one thing.”

He regarded me seriously. Like he was worried about failing some test. Didn’t he know he’d already passed with flying colors?

I pursed my lips. “Do you have one of those signs hanging somewhere that says zero days since the last incident?”

He leaned across the table and I loved that he had the same urge to be closer.

“No,” he said. “But now I need to make sure to get one.”

We were briefly interrupted when a waiter arrived pushing a cart that looked like it held a feast. He wheeled it right up to the edge of the table and uncovered the dishes before serving us every seafood delight you could imagine. Then he slipped away again.

“I like that,” I said when he was gone.

“What?”

“I like that you chose a career you’re passionate about. Something that suits you. So often, people aren’t able to find that kind of satisfaction in their jobs.”

I cracked into the crab while he started on shrimp.

“You do something on the internet, right?” Sloane asked.

I frowned. “You know me?”

He shook his head. “Not until today. But, you know that lady in line who was vying to take your place tonight? She told me you were a star on some social media app or something.” His full lips slid into a smirk. “I didn’t even know that was a thing, being internet famous.”

I sipped my wine. “Not a big internet user, are you?”

“No. But after tonight I might have to become one.”

Setting my fork down, I held out my hand. “Give me your phone.”

To my surprise, he didn’t even hesitate. Our fingers brushed during the exchange and a shiver travelled up my arm. Sloane’s hands were rough from work, and I suddenly wanted to feel them all over me.

“I’m going to help you,” I told him, but I’d be lying if I said I was doing this just for him.

No, I had ulterior motives.

I desperately wanted him to know how to find me again if he wanted to. And after tonight, I really wanted him to want to.

Quickly, I downloaded several apps and showed him how to open profiles. Maybe I also committed his email address to memory. Just in case. No shame in my game.

Sloane was special. I could feel it deep down.

A little salty, a little sweet. Like the ocean air. Tender but intense.

He was a dream, and I wasn’t letting him slip away. Not when I’d been looking for someone like him for so long.

My job was a great gig that afforded me a lot of opportunities. But being internet famous didn’t mean I was drowning in meaningful relationships. That was why my girls and the Chub Club were so important to me.

There was just one hole in my heart that had never been adequately filled. The one that kept me awake at night hoping I would someday find true love.

Forever love.

Enduring and unfailing love.

I didn’t know if Sloane was the one, but he sure felt like he could be.

And since I was exactly the type to go unflinchingly after what I want, I could only hope the sexy man across from me was ready for Hurricane Gia.
