He turned to look at Poppy and then back to Heather. Her face flushed, but he wasn’t going to admit anything.

The silence was enough for everyone to start laughing.

“Are you going to open the box?” he asked. Maybe he was wrong to do this now. Or this early.

Could be it was too early for her too?

“You need to do that,” she said. “Be glad I don’t say you should get on your knee.”

He smiled at her. “We know I do what you tell me, but I’ll stay seated if it is the same to you.” He flipped the lid and showed her the white gold band that was designed like the long stem of a heather flower with buds on it. Daisy had done a crazy beautiful job on this. There was a diamond solitaire in the center. He figured it would suit her. “We’ve known each other for almost two years.”

“But didn’t talk for a year of it,” she said, smiling.

“I never forgot you and you know it,” he said. “And I’m never going to let you go either. I’m asking you in front of all your friends and the family you’ve got here. Will you be my wife?”

She leaned forward and put his face in her hands. “Yes,” she said. “I’ll be your wife.” He slid the ring on her finger. She looked it over and turned to Daisy. “You did a stunning job with this. Thank you so much.”

“You’re welcome,” Daisy said. “There is no one else I would let do it. Not even Rose, even if she wasn’t working right now. Because you know, I know it all. The whole two years' worth.”

Heather wrinkled her nose at Daisy, then she turned to Poppy. “Oh, what the hell. It’s not like I’m not going to marry the man. Yes, Poppy. We did hook up at Lily’s wedding.”

Poppy pointed her finger and stood up to do a little booty dance she was famous for. “I knew it. I told Lily months ago too.”

Heather turned to look at Lily. “Did she?”

“She did. I thought it happened too but figured if you wanted anyone to know, you’d tell us. And you did.”

“Yes, I did,” she said. “And I’m damn proud of myself for landing you, Luke.”

He laughed and kissed her again. “Not as proud as I am!”

The End!
