“Yes, he loves you very much. I don’t think he’d have changed a thing.”

She smiled gently. “Okay.”

I wanted to round the table and pull her into my arms, maybe kiss her to emphasize my sincerity. But something about just sitting and talking with her felt so much more meaningful.

The sky was dark now, the backyard only lit up by the outdoor lighting. The warm glow played across Ava’s expressive features as she asked me more about my life.

I settled in, my heart filling with contentment. This felt…right.

Chapter11

Ava

Hours must have passed since I arrived at Liam’s house.

It was dark outside and the air was much cooler. Yet, it felt like mere minutes since I climbed the porch steps and rang the doorbell.

The outdoor lighting behind me danced in his eyes, giving them an otherworldly quality. He leaned back in his chair, a stealthy strength in his arms and chest.

Something twisted in my belly.

What if I crawled over the table and climbed into his lap? Would he wrap his arms around me? Call me agood girlagain?

A thrill feathered across my neck and I shivered.I wish.

“Are you getting cold?” Liam sat up.

“No, I’m fine.”

“It is chilly.” He looked around. “And dark. I’ve kept you out here for too long.”

Not long enough.I almost said the thought out loud.

He drew up to his full height and started clearing the table.

He claimed my dad used to be much bigger than him. If that was right, he’d filled out quite nicely.

I licked my lips, wondering what it’d feel like to run my tongue down his body. Maybe pull his cock into my mouth. Let him thrust deep into my throat.

Another shiver rocked my body.

Liam missed nothing. His eyes turned to slits, jaw clenched. Like he was mad.

“Let’s go inside.” He drew me up by the arm. “Quickly.”

I laughed, rising to my feet. I’d been doing that—laughing—a lot tonight.

Laughing. It was so easy with Liam.

Most of the time, he was so serious. The only emotions I could detect from him were hiding in his eyes. Yet, the atmosphere around him was warm and welcoming.

Maybe that was what made him such a good doctor. My insides seized up. I wanted to be the only being taken care of by him.

It made me want to throw myself into his arms and stay there forever.

We crossed the threshold into the house. Liam let my hand go and headed to the trash can. I clenched my fist, missing his warmth.

Once he disposed of the empty takeout containers, he made his way to the sink. His face was set in a firm line as he washed his hands, giving attention to every inch.
