“Because you’re not alone there, it seems like most of the staff is pretty smitten with her.”

I couldn’t deny that, so I didn’t bother.

“Anyway, you do know that we started this business not just to make money, but also to enjoy ourselves, right?”

I crossed my arms in front of my chest and stared down at Reed. He was well over six feet tall—not many men would tower over him—but I wasn’t built like many men.

“We all had our rules, Reed. You included.”

“They were flimsy rules from the beginning,” Reed said. “Just something to keep us from fucking every hot woman that walked in the place because that could make things awkward.”

“Why is Snow any different?”

Reed shrugged. “Not sure. Maybe because she’s not like our other clients. Not saying anything bad about them, but she’s… well, as you know, different.”

Dammit, Gage, stop thinking about her. I tried scolding myself.

Easier said than done.

“Listen, I know your history with your sister but Snow isn’t Claire—”

“Don’t bring Claire into this,” I said.

“Sorry.” Reed held up his hands in defeat. “If you want to keep your distance from Snow, fine by me. But don’t continue to walk around and take it out on everyone else simply because you can’t let loose and enjoy yourself. I see the way she looks at you... I swear out of all of us she has the hots for you the most.”

“Really?” I perked up for a moment before remembering my rule. “No, you’re imagining things. I need to get back to work.”

I moved past Reed just as a woman’s voice called from the entrance, “Security! We need security!”

I didn’t hesitate for a second. I took off running toward the front, with Reed on my heels. As we approached the front desk, a familiar face glared back at me.

Hunter.

I cracked my knuckles, prepared for a fight.

“What the fuck are you doing back here?” I called out as I walked toward him.

“I want to speak to a manager,” Hunter’s speech was slurred. He was clearly drunk.

“Well, you’re talking to one now,” I said.

“No, someone else. Someone above you.”

“We’re the owners,” Reed said, stepping up beside me. “There’s no one above us.”

Hunter leaned on the counter and let out a drunken laugh. He stared at the female receptionist, his gaze moving up and down, clearly making her uncomfortable.

“We told you if we saw you around here again, we would call the cops,” Reed said, remaining calm.

I was already moving toward him. There was no use trying to talk any sense into someone like him, obviously drunk out of his mind and not thinking clearly. I knew that it was like walking up to a tiger—totally unpredictable. I didn’t want a fight. I would do my best to remain in control without roughing him up, but I would also do everything in my power to get him out of our resort.

“Come on,” I growled as I grabbed his arm.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Hunter said as he tried to fight free from my grasp, unsuccessfully. “I want to see Snow. I just wanna talk to her, that’s all.”

“No,” I said. Because there was no other response needed. She didn’t want to talk to him, I knew that for a fact, and there was no way I was going to let him even lay an eye on her on our grounds.

I grabbed the man with both hands and began personally escorting him toward the door. He fought against my hold and tried to break free. He tried throwing punches, mostly missing, and the ones that did hit me weren’t hard enough to do any damage. He was truly pathetic.
