“A king needs his castle, right?” I winced in pain; I definitely had a few broken ribs, and every time I moved or breathed, I wanted to scream.

“Are you okay?” She reached for me then jerked her hands away.

“Not even close,” I muttered a curse. “I probably have internal bleeding, but at least that’s over with. Let’s go relax. I have my eye on the most expensive bottle of liquor in his cabinet.”

His new butler was standing near the open door. “That would be around a hundred thousand dollar bottle of Scotch, sir.” He grinned. “Shall I take it out for you?”

I knew he’d hired someone new, but this guy sounded more Italian than me, impressive actually. He was younger with slicked-back black hair and a three-piece black silk suit. His earpiece was still in, and he looked more than capable for the job.

“Actually, yes, do that.” I looked back at the SUV. “And can you have someone bring our bags to our room?”

“Right away, Mr. Sinacore.”

Well, at least they’d warned the staff. I had to admit it would be nice to relax for once in a decade and not have to worry about anything other than healing and spending time getting to know my new wife.

Wife.

The word itself tasted weird.

Katya timidly followed me inside the house. She was like a little kid experiencing her first Christmas. She probably hadn’t seen this sort of wealth anytime in her entire life, not even when she was younger.

She did a small circle in the foyer. “It’s huge.”

“This is just the first floor,” I added. “Why don’t we get comfortable and just spend time in bed?”

Her eyes widened, and she jerked her head toward me. “B-but you’re injured.”

“Not that kind of time.” I shuddered and then stumbled against her accidentally. “Sorry, I’m just exhausted and in way too much pain. Doubt I could even pleasure myself, let alone you.”

“That was a really poor choice of words.”

“Was completely aware of that the minute they left my mouth; must be the deliriousness of getting hit by a bat.”

She scrunched up her nose. “Or having your wife carve into your chest.”

“Nah, that was my favorite part. I liked being marked.”

Her cheeks turned a bright pink. “I’m sure you did.”

“Let’s go.” I wrapped an arm around her both to touch her and to lean on her if I was being completely honest.

We met the butler in the hallway. He gave a small bow. “I left the whiskey with two glasses in your room, along with a few snacks. If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to ask.”

“Honestly…” I bit down on my lip and really thought about it. I had my guns. Nobody knew we were here but the guys. “Why don’t you just take the night off? Leave a few men out front for security, but other than that, you’re fine. We’re tired anyway.”

“Oh?” His eyebrows shot up. “All right then, I’ll just leave you to it. Have a lovely evening.”

Once he was gone and we were walking into our guest suite and shutting the door, Katya spoke. “Where the hell do they train people like that?”

I grunted and left her for the soft mattress. “Butler school.”

“Seriously?”

“Yup. It’s a thing.”

“Really?”

“Would I lie?” I flip onto my back and stare up at the ceiling. “You know, I can’t really touch you right now without hurting myself.”
