“Don’t be. Please explain to me about that child.” He smirked.

“She’s my brother Nathan’s kid and a genius. She has an I.Q. of 160.”

“Fuck. Are you serious?”

“Yeah.” I breathed out a laugh. “Her mind is on overdrive with anything and everything medical. She’s going to sit in on one of my surgeries on Friday.”

“Wait. What?” His brows furrowed.

“I’ve already cleared it with her father, the hospital's CEO, and the patient.”

“Umm. I have no words. How old is she? Six, seven?”

“She just turned seven. So, I’ll warn you right now. If you come to L.A., be prepared. She will steal you and want to know anything and everything about trauma surgery.”

“I’m kind of scared to talk to her. She probably already knows more than I do.” He laughed.

“She just might.” My lips formed a smirk.

CHAPTER13

Georgia

I was sitting in my office, reviewing patients’ notes, when the door opened, and Emilia stuck her head in.

“Hey. Do you have a minute?”

“Of course. Come in.”

“I’ve been wanting to talk to you all week, but there never seemed to be enough time,” she said as she sat down in the chair across from my desk.

“What’s wrong?”

“I’m speaking to you right now as your patient.”

“Okay,” I spoke with a worried tone.

“Sebastian and I haven’t been using protection for the past eight months, and I’m still not pregnant.”

“I didn’t know you guys were trying for a baby.”

“Well, we just said if it happens, it happens. But now I’m starting to get worried that something might be wrong.”

“It’s only been eight months.”

“It seems like an eternity for me.”

“Okay. Then I’ll do a fertility workup and see if there’s anything on your end that is preventing you from getting pregnant. If everything comes back normal, we’ll have to get a semen sample from Sebastian.”

“He’s going to love that.” She shook her head. “If something is wrong, I hope it’s with me and not him.”

“I don’t think anything is wrong with either one of you. And the more you stress out about it, the less chance you’ll get pregnant. So, relax. These things take a little longer for some women, but it doesn’t mean anything is wrong.”

She stared at me, and all I could see was sadness.

“Listen, Emilia.” I placed my hand on hers. “Do you trust me?”

“Of course, I trust you.”
