I left his office and headed to the medical center. I saw Nathan talking to June at the reception desk when I walked into the practice.

“Hey, bro,” he said.

“I’m glad you’re free.” I placed my hand on his shoulder. “I just came from talking to George, and he gave the go-ahead to let Ella sit in on my craniotomy Friday.”

“Shit. I was hoping he’d say no.”

“It’s up to the patient now. In fact, he’s coming in this afternoon for a pre-op appointment.”

“Let’s hope he says no.” Nathan sighed as he walked away.

Later that evening, after Georgia and I had dinner, I grabbed a beer from the fridge and took it down to the beach. We were gathering because Simon and Sebastian had talked to Curtis.

“Hey,” They all spoke as I walked over and sat down.

“So? What happened?” I brought the beer bottle to my lips.

“According to Curtis, Mom met this guy, and things went downhill from there. He said he knew things weren’t perfect between them, but he never thought she would cheat on him,” Sebastian said.

“Then he didn’t know Mom as well as we thought he did,” Simon said, and Sam reached over and slapped the back of his head.

“Fuck, bro. Knock it off.” Simon brought his hand to his head. “It’s the damn truth, and you know it. You’re all just afraid to say it.”

“Did he seem really upset?” Stefan asked.

“Yeah. He did,” Sebastian spoke. “It was awkward and uncomfortable. He said he wants the divorce to happen as quickly as possible so he can move on with his life.”

“Does he know who this guy is that your mother is seeing?” I asked.

“No. He has no clue,” Simon said. “And to be honest, I don’t care. She can do whatever the hell she wants. But she better think twice about bringing him around.”

“I agree. I don’t want any stranger near my kids,” Stefan said.

“Did you tell Ella yet?” I asked Nathan.

“Yeah. I had to tell her last night because she overheard Barb talking to Sofia.”

“What did she say?” Christian asked.

“Not much. She’s upset about it. She said she’ll miss him. Are you all set for tomorrow morning?” He glanced at me.

“I still have to pack. Can you all keep an eye on Georgia while I’m gone? I’ll be back on Thursday.”

“You know we will, bro,” Conner said.

“I know the girls are taking her to dinner tomorrow night,” Shaun said.

“Don’t worry. We’ll make sure she doesn’t miss you.” Conner grinned.

“Where are you going again?” Sam asked.

“Boston. I’m a guest speaker at the Neurological conference at Mass General. In fact, I better get home. Shaun’s plane leaves at four-thirty a.m., and I haven’t packed yet.”

“Do you need a ride to the hangar?” Christian asked.

“No. I arranged for a car to pick me up. Thanks anyway, bro. I’ll see you douchebags when I return.” I smiled. “Try to stay out of trouble while I’m gone.”

“Can’t make any promises, cousin.” Simon grinned.
