“Hey, you.” Charlotte walked in and hugged me. “How are you?”

“I’m okay.”

She reached into the cabinet and pulled down a coffee cup.

“Jackson told me he spoke with you yesterday.” I leaned against the island.

“Yeah. He did.”

“We talked last night, and he told me why he got so upset. I told him I was taking his name. It should never have been an issue in the first place.” I brought the cup to my lips.

“Did you decide before or after he told you how he felt?” she asked.

“Before.”

“Okay. I want to make sure you weren’t doing it out of guilt.”

“I’m not. He said he wants me to keep my last name with his.”

“Dr. Georgia Scott-Kind?” Her brow arched.

“Yeah.”

“How does that sound to you?”

“I don’t know.” I sighed. “I’d rather keep it short and simple. Dr. Georgia Kind.” I glanced at my watch. “I have a patient. We’ll talk later.”

Walking back to my practice, I opened the door to exam room one with a smile.

“Good morning, you two.” I grinned.

“Good morning.” Jenni smiled.

“Morning, Georgia.” Shaun held Jenni’s hand.

“I’m so scared the test is a false positive,” Jenni spoke with concern.

“I’m going to do a transvaginal ultrasound right now, and we’ll find out.” I smiled. “Just lay back on the table, put your feet in the stirrups, and relax,” I said as I set up the ultrasound machine. “You might feel a little discomfort, but I promise it won’t hurt. Shaun, can you turn off the lights?”

After lubricating the probe, I inserted it into Jenni and prayed that the pregnancy test she took was accurate. As I stared at the monitor, a smile crossed my face.

“See this right here?” I pointed to the shadow on the monitor. “That is your baby.”

“Oh my God, Shaun. We really are pregnant.” Jenni beamed with excitement as Shaun brought her hand up to his lips.

“Georgia, you said ‘baby.’ There’s only one, right?”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “Yes, Shaun. There’s only one. You are six weeks pregnant, mama, and from what I’m seeing, everything looks good.” I pulled the probe out.

“I can’t believe it.” She looked at Shaun as tears streamed down her face.

“Believe it, babe. It’s happening. We’re having a baby.” Shaun leaned over and kissed her forehead.

“Congratulations, Mom and Dad. I’ll send Kaia in to draw some blood, and I want to see you back here in two weeks. Expect to hear your baby’s heartbeat.” I smiled.

As I was standing at the reception desk, Jenni and Shaun walked up. While Jenni scheduled her next appointment, Shaun pulled me over to the side.

“Everything looked okay, right?” he asked.
