And I was going to remind him of that.

Chapter Twenty

Nate

Somewhere between dancing in the cage and Mari demanding I get down, I made a mistake.

Anger, I’d expected. Possessiveness, I’d hoped for.

Ice-cold rage was not part of the plan. Especially when it was paired with the world’s smallest sliver of hurt.

Fuck.

I wasn’t sure what set her off, but I had to fix it. If I didn’t, my sexy surprise was going to end up a deadly one.

“Let’s go, Nate.”

I reached for her, grabbing her just above the elbow. “Mari?—”

“Don’t.” She tore her arm away. “I’m so pissed off, I can’t right now.”

I could see that, and it made my stomach ache. “This isn’t how this was supposed to happen.”

“What was supposed to happen, Nate?”

“I didn’t come here for anyone but you.”

She stared at me, eyes narrowed like she was trying to spot a lie. She wouldn’t find one. When she realized that, she prowled forward, pinning me against the cage. My dick, already hard from the possessiveness of her shooting down the servers, pressed between us. “Do you think it was smart of you to take your clothes off in front of other women?”

Focusing was a chore with her body against me, but I tried. “I wasn’t doing it for them.”

“You didn’t want them to look?”

“I wanted you to look. Only you.” Because even after the shower, things were slow with us, and I wanted more. I needed more. I needed her.

Besides, the dancing thing was Dominic’s idea. Greyson helped too. Hell, even Cameron was part of this charade.

And I’d throw them all under the bus if I had to.

“How did you even get in the group?”

“Not exactly a real group, angel.”

She peered at the other men again, and when the one closest to me winked, I knew the jig was up. Like a switch, Mari’s anger dimmed. “Oh my god, I did not need to see my cousin like this.”

“Then don’t look,” Cameron said behind his mask.

A lighthearted laugh lit up her face, and the sight made my breath catch. Not only because she was beautiful, but because I knew we were okay. Or, we would be. “Ash’s going to be so pissed at you.”

“Good. We’ll match.”

Considering the lap-dance portion was right around the corner, I couldn’t wait to see what happened.

“Who’s the other guy?”

“Someone your uncle recommended.”

Her brows screwed up. “Joaquin?”
