“So, that kind of shit wasn’t going on the whole time?”

“No.” I sighed. “Please, Smoke. Please don’t ask me about it anymore. I don’t want to think about him when I’m in bed with you.”

“Fine. I’ll drop it.” He adjusted his position and then placed his hand on the small of my back, urging me even closer. “Why did you cry earlier?”

“Because it was intense, and I was overwhelmed. And I’ve never…”

“Never what?” he prodded.

“Come that hard.”

I wanted to bury my head in his shoulder, but I refused to cower. Something about Smoke made me brave.

His arms tightened around me.

“Sleep, Logan. We’ve got all night.”

Chapter 12

“You lying sack of shit!” I yelled.

My elbow shot back and hit a very solid, very warm stomach. A masculine grunt sounded from behind me. Arms fell away from me and I scrambled from the bed in a rage.

I fumbled with the lamp on the bedside table and a moment later, an amber glow illuminated the motel room.

Motel room.

“Damn it,” I muttered as the last traces of heavy sleep cleared from my brain.

The fear in the pit of my stomach wasn’t so quick to leave.

Smoke rubbed his belly where I’d hit him. “At least it wasn’t my balls.”

I closed my eyes and sighed. “I forgot where I was. I thought you were Knox.”

“Yeah, I got that.”

The air conditioner kicked on and blasted cold air across my skin, causing me to shiver. I’d fallen asleep completely naked. I never slept naked.

“Oh.”

Smoke’s gaze heated when he looked at me.

Desire swirled in my belly as I settled back down next to him.

How could I have forgotten I was in bed with Smoke?

I leaned over and cut the light. It was dark and quiet, my heart thumping like a terrified rabbit.

Smoke pulled me into his arms and tangled his legs with mine. “Bet you’ve got one hell of a right hook.”

I smiled even though he couldn’t see me. “I do. Four older brothers, remember?”

“I remember.”

“How’s your stomach?”

“I’ll live.”
