“Not the norm, I assure you,” I said with a laugh.

“I have five minutes. Tell me all the things.”

“What things?” I averred.

“Things. Like, how’s your life, how’s your website, how’s everything else?”

I quickly darted a look in the direction of my bedroom where I had a very naked man in my bed.

“Hmm. Well, not much happening with the website yet. Willa’s doing a mockup with a couple of designs.”

“That’s it? That’s your entire life? Please tell me you’ve been going out, doing fun things with Brielle and Jazz. Anything so you’re not sitting at home cuddling the remote.”

“Am I so predictable?” I demanded.

“Well? Have they taken you clubbing?”

“No. Why would they take me clubbing?”

“I don’t know. It gives you an excuse to wear a short sparkly dress and have strangers grind up on you.”

“That sounds not at all fun.”

“Then you’re doing it wrong.”

I laughed. “Not much is happening here, honestly. I had lunch with the Old Ladies the other day.”

“And?”

“And…they’re a good group. They’re eclectic, but they all really care about each other. They’re honest and open, and even though they hardly know me, they talk to me like they’ve known me for years.”

“Sounds nice.”

“It is nice,” I assured her.

“So, nothing else?” she prodded.

“Not really,” I lied.

“Oh. Okay then.”

“What about you? How’s your patient?”

“Easiest job in the world,” she said. “We alternate between playing backgammon or cards and then they sleep in the afternoon.”

“Sounds pretty chill.”

“It is. I better go,” she said. “We’re still on for Saturday night?”

“Yup.”

“Good. Oh, guess what?”

“What?”

“My dad called my grandfather.”

“Yeah?” I asked in surprise.
