“Stop!” Alina yells again. “He’s with—”

“I’m going to fucking kill you if you’ve touched her,” Mikhail snarls as he surges forward.

I slam my palm into his forearm, redirecting the blow, while flashing him a smirk. “Oh I’ve done more than touch her.”

Rage hot enough to burn the world down roars through his eyes, and he swings blindly at me again. Behind me, Alina has put herself between me and the other three.

As Mikhail’s fist speeds past me, I grab his wrist and then twist his arm.

He lets out a cry as I force his arm up behind him, making him press his cheek against the counter beside us. I snatch up one of the empty bottles and slam it against the edge of the sink.

Glass shatters, the sound of it echoing through the room.

Alina, who was waving her arms around and trying to explain to the others that I’m not here to attack them, whips around to stare at us.

“Damn, you’re pathetic,” I tell Mikhail as I lift the bottle.

He growls something presumably vicious in Russian while yanking against my hold on his wrist and trying to get his cheek off the counter.

I bring the now broken bottle up to his face.

He stills.

“Good,” I say, holding the jagged edges close to his eye. “Now, can you calm yourself down enough to have an actual conversation? Or should I finish what Eli started last year and finally take your eye?”

“Kaden,” Alina snaps, her voice full of authority.

Twisting my head, I find her standing there two steps away with her eyebrows raised, giving me a look that I can only interpret as, what the fuck did I just tell you?

“He started it,” I point out.

A frustrated breath rips from her lungs, and she rolls her eyes in annoyance. Then she levels that pointed stare on me again. “Just put the bottle down.” Her gaze shifts to her brother. “Mikhail, stop trying to kill him. He’s here to talk. We are here to talk.”

Clinking noises fill the dead silent kitchen as I toss the broken bottle into the sink and then release my hold on Mikhail’s arm.

He immediately shoots up from the counter and rolls his shoulder. Twisting towards me, he bares his teeth while rage flashes in his eyes.

“We?” Anton suddenly says, breaking the tense silence. “What do you mean, we are here to talk?”

Surprise and confusion pulse across Mikhail’s face too as he at last turns to Alina. The twins stand on Anton’s right, staring at her as well.

For a few seconds, only the faint thumping of music from outside the windows breaks the stillness.

Then Alina raises her chin and declares, “Kaden and I are dating.”

I swear I can feel the shockwave that pulses through the room.

All eyes turn to me as the four annoying Russians just gape at me in stunned disbelief. Then four simultaneous voices tear through the stillness like gunshots.

“The fuck you are!” Mikhail screams, whipping back towards Alina.

“You can’t be serious!” Maksim blurts out while his twin says, “You’re joking, right?”

Anton shakes his head while staring at her. “Please tell me this is a joke.”

With her chin still raised, Alina walks over so that she is standing right next to me. Defiance burns in her eyes as she stares down her brothers and cousins while pointedly sliding her hand into mine.

I flex my fingers around her hand while flashing the four angry men in front of us a smug smirk.
