The world around me faded away as I connected to the earth below me through my magic. My whole body hummed happily. I hadn’t really connected with my magic in a very long time. I had been too scared too, terrified it wouldn’t be there when I reached for it.

My trauma was no joke and the struggle was real.

I pulled on all the moisture in the ground and pushed it towards the manmade opening in the earth where the man was waiting.

I dug my fingernails into the dirt as the skin on my hands cracked and split apart. My knuckles began to bleed as the earth beneath me dried up.

My lips became chapped and split open in several places as water seeped through the walls and rapidly flowed into the hole.

My nose began to bleed as I pulled and pulled from the earth with my magic.

As ever, there was always a price, and I was more than willing to pay it.

The man’s muffled screams and begging reached my ears but I was too focused on the task at hand to make out the words that poured out of his mouth.

A large hand gently covered mine and more magic rushed through me. It was strong, commanding, and the most beautiful thing I had ever felt. It was shrouded in beautiful shades of gold and green.

I knew without a doubt who’s magic it belonged to.

Rain had joined me. And he was far more powerful than I.

The bleeding stopped but the damage already done to my body remained. I had already given more than my share of blood to this clearing before today, my debt had been paid in full.

I laid there with my eyes closed as Rain laced his fingers with mine and we listened as the hole filled with water and the man’s screams were muffled out.

It didn’t take long for him to drown down there. I counted down the seconds in my head, making sure there was no chance of survival before I stopped pulling on the earth.

I didn’t need for the hole to be filled up in it’s entirety to get my closure. I just needed it to be high enough to drown him.

He was lucky.

He only had to endure it the once.

If I were stronger or more spiteful I’d drain it, revive his worthless ass, and fill it up all over again just so he could die, over and over again.

Lucky for him, I didn’t have that in me.

Rain squeezed my hand in a silent show of support and I knew he’d lend me all of his strength if that’s what I wanted.

I appreciated him, but once was more than enough for me.

I was tired, so very tired, and my work here was nowhere near done.

I squeezed Rain’s hand back before letting it go.

I opened my eyes and sat up. My head swam as I was overwhelmed with dizziness. I beat it back because now wasn’t the time for weakness.

So many more people had joined us in the clearing,

I ignored them as I crawled over to the edge of the hole and looked down. I could see nothing, but I didn’t need to see in order to feel.

I reached out with my magic, a gentle caress against the water.

There was nothing living down there.

Only death met with my touch.

Just as I knew it would. But I wasn’t satisfied with simply that and knew before I pulled the water out of the earth that it wouldn’t be enough for me.
