“She’s being set up to look like she’s stealing from Purgatory.”

“What the fuck?” Heather snaps. “What do the rest of the club’s finances have to do with it?”

“Well,” Jez states. “I wanted to be sure Purgatory was the only business affected in order to eliminate anyone inside the club as a suspect.”

“And?” Violet asks.

“Purgatory is the only business missing money.”

“That’s something, I guess,” Cece comments.

“Yeah, but that doesn’t change the fact that someone is trying to throw Skye under a very large bus,” Jez says, leveling her gaze on Cece. “And as soon as I figure out who, that’s who we’re killing because I’m really pissed off.”

“Oh, good.” Heather winks. “There still might be some bloodshed.”

“Once I get my hands on the asshole responsible, he’ll be resembling a pin cushion.” I whip out my knife, and Mel whistles. “He’s ruining my life.”

“As your attorney, I advise we don’t talk about murder and mayhem here,” she whispers, glancing around the deli. “However, as the leader of The Badass Bitches, I’m inclined to agree.”

“The Badass Bitches?” Apple questions.

“Why do you get to be the leader?” Cece nudges Mel in the side.

“Yes, every single one of us is a badass bitch. We have to be in order to be able to keep up with our men.” Mel pokes Cece in the ribs. “You’re already First Lady. Quit being stingy and let the rest of us have a title.”

We all howl with laughter which breaks the tension.

Jez clears her throat to get our attention. “Alright, alright. Here’s what I know so far. There are mysterious deposits in Skye’s account: however, I searched the cameras in and around the bank, and on the days they were made, Skye was nowhere to be seen. I also dug into her phone to see if there were any deposits made from mobile banking, and there wasn’t a single suspicious transaction. Not that she can deposit cash from the app, but I’m covering all my bases.”

“She could’ve gone to a different bank outside of Boulder City,” Apple quips but quickly adds. “I’m not saying she did. I’m just being practical. Someone could easily make that claim.”

“True,” Jez concedes. “Except Skye banks at the Boulder City Credit Union.”

“That’s good news right?” Violet inquires.

“Yes and no,” Jez admits. “There are only two locations and they’re both here in town. However, I still don’t have a clue as to who is pulling the strings, but at least I have proof that it isn’t Skye.”

I sigh. “Good because the last thing I want is for Rogue or the club to doubt me. The evidence is pretty damning… again.”

Jez furrows her brow in concentration as she pounds the keys. “Why didn’t I think of this before,” she mumbles. “Of course. If I can bury it deep enough into their mainframe it should allow me to build a trojan horse.”

“Care to clue in the rest of the class?” Heather smirks.

“I’m planting a backdoor virus in Skye’s accounts,” Jez explains. “It will alert me when someone hacks in and leave a trail that I can follow in order to find out who the hell is behind all of this. Once we know who the fucker is, I can back him into a corner, drain his accounts, and Skye can turn him into her personal pin cushion.”

Heather claps. “Absolutely brilliant.”

“Shouldn’t we discuss this with the guys first?” Violet holds up her hands in surrender when six pairs of eyes home in on her. “I’m not saying that’s what we have to do, but won’t they all be pissed that we’re doing this without at least talking to them first? You know how they get.”

“We’re taking matters into our own hands.” Cece stands forcefully, causing her chair to scrape across the tile. “Come on ladies, we’re going to the clubhouse. We protect our own.”

“Hell yeah!” Apple shouts, high fiving her.

“I’m in.” Violet grins. “Girl power!”

“This is going to be epic.” Heather rubs her hands together like an evil villain. “I can’t wait to see the look on their faces. They won’t know what hit them.”

Mel tosses her hair over her shoulder. “No matter how this ends today, I have a feeling angry sex will definitely be on the menu.”
