His request. When Nortrix challenged me, Delco asked for me to lose. He wanted me to let Nortrix kill me, otherwise, the Ironfang would start a war with the Nightshade.

I frowned. “You probably know Nortrix didn’t show up for the challenge, and even if he had, I wouldn’t let him kill me to satisfy you.”

Delco bared his fangs. “Then that means war.”

He whistled and his men shifted. A beat later, Serge’s lackeys shifted.

They all attacked.

I shifted before they got to me. Dom did the same, and Killian and his vampires zoomed into the fight.

A wolf jumped for me, but I dodged his attack and dove to the side. I twisted my body and closed my mouth around his shoulder. I buried my teeth deep and pulled, ripping muscle and flesh. The wolf howled. I dropped him, and he fell into a lifeless pile.

I turned away from him, looking for Rotgar.

His dark eyes met mine from across the fight, near the infirmary’s corner. With a snarl, I ran after him. I weaved through the fight, avoiding direct strikes and jumping over fallen bodies. I got to the infirmary, turning in a circle. The demon was gone. I sniffed the air, the ground, but there was no hint of his scent anywhere. It was like he had opened a portal and gone through.

Frustration coursed through me, and I turned to the two men still holding Eike’s mate captive. Their gazes were on Eike and Serge, who were circling each other not far from them, but not attacking. Using their distraction, I moved behind them and struck. The two went down before they could utter a word. Eike’s mate gave me a sharp nod, then shifted, joining the fight.

I needed to end this madness fast.

Delco stood back, still in his human form, watching everyone. What the hell was he waiting for? I pushed him out of my mind and focused on Eike and Serge.

I jumped to Eike’s side, snarling at Serge. The wolf seemed to peel his lips back in a grin. He wouldn’t be smiling for too long.

They continued circling each other and not doing anything, and I was sick of this. I lunged for Serge. He jumped to the side, and thankfully, Eike got the hint and moved, rushing into Serge from the other side. He snapped his teeth, inches from Serge’s neck, but the wolf was like a snake, slithering out of the way. I jumped on his back and held him down. Then, I howled at Eike.

Eike pressed a paw on Serge’s muzzle, pushing it toward the ground and clamped his teeth around his throat. Serge struggled, but with the both of us holding him. There was nothing he could do. Eike bit down and jerked to the side. A sickening crack echoed.

I pulled back.

Eike let out a howl. The Whitecrest wolves who had come with Serge stopped fighting. They all turned to Delco and his wolves. The Ironfang wolves formed a line before their alpha. The coward stared at me, then turned to leave. Oh, no, he wouldn’t. I yelped once. Instantly, the vampires surrounded Delco and the Whitecrest wolves attacked the Ironfang pack.

“For wolves’ sake,” he muttered before taking off his shirt and shifting into an impressive brown wolf. He snapped at the vampires, but they didn’t fight him. They were there to hold the Ironfang’s alpha back.

I entered the circle formed by the vampires with Eike by my side. We weren’t in the same pack and couldn’t communicate through the pack’s link, but when he looked at me, I saw he understood what I wanted him to do. What my suggestion was.

He let out a low yelp and lunged at Delco. I stayed there, watching the fight. If needed, I would interfere. I would hold Delco down so Eike could get to him. I was tired of these tyrant alphas, and if the Ironfang and the Whitecrest had to unite under one flag, then so be it.

But I didn’t have to do anything.

Surrounded by vampires, and with me there, Delco didn’t have anywhere to run. Eike tricked him when he jumped right, rolled left, and lunged from behind, closing his mouth on Delco’s shoulder. The Ironfang alpha went down and didn’t get up anymore.

Eike howled and the Ironfang wolves stopped, their heads low.

We shifted back, our bodies sweaty and stained with blood. I looked around. One of our vampires was done, another two were badly hurt, but would probably be all right, and at least another five wolves had died in this senseless battle.

I was so fucking tired of this.

“That’s not what I wanted,” Eike said. His eyes scanned the scene like I had done. “I had to call you because he had my mate.” He extended his hand and his mate stepped closer, slipping her hand in his. “You have a mate. I know you would do anything for her.”

I nodded. “I would.”

“Forgive me,” he whispered.

“All that I ask is that you lead both packs as one with dignity and honor. Be a good alpha and this—” I gestured to the blood and body around us. “—won’t happen ever again.”

He nodded. “I will do my best.”
