He moaned the instant our mouths touched, and grabbed me before he stood, lifting me at the waist, wrapping my legs around his. And then an instant of mindless bliss as he met my soft kiss with his own, greedier, harder, more demanding, and full of lust. Our bodies were pressed together, and he stumbled a bit holding me as he backed up to lean against the wall.

He kissed me like his life depended on it, and like he'd be graded on his performance. A plus, by the way.

For a moment, I lost myself. I wasn't thinking about bills, or kids, or work or chores, or my dead husband. I wasn’t thinking about anything except the way his free hand raked through my hair while his arm cupped my butt, holding me in place, and how sweet he tasted. But of course, as it always did, reality came crashing down, the chirping of a notification on my phone being the catalyst.

We pulled apart, startled, and he silently lowered me until my feet were on the ground.

“I think that was your phone. You should probably check it," he panted, wiping his mouth with the back of his sleeve.

"Right." Unable to believe what I'd done, I looked away and snatched my phone off the table. "It's Gia," I announced, rolling my eyes.

"Is everything okay?"

Opening the notification to read her messages, I nodded. "She sent a few pics and said she's going to bring them home an hour early.”

"So they’ll be back at four?" Bain flicked his wrist to glance at his fancy watch. "That gives us an hour to set some new rules and discuss the upcoming week. We better get started."

And just like that, the moment we'd shared was over, and it was back to business.

As nice as the kiss had been, it was all for the best. Men, especially ones with big dimples, sexy chiseled jaws, and kisses that took your breath away, were complications, and with our brief, but complicated, and oh-so-good past hookups, Augustus Weston Bainbridge the third was the biggest complication of them all.

Besides, I wasn't ready to think about that kiss, or what it meant or didn't mean yet.

Chapter Six

Bain

Well, that had been…unexpected. Intoxicating, mind boggling, and sexy as hell, but so very unexpected.

As soon as it was over, though, it was like a trance had been broken, for both of us. I could tell Jasmine didn't want to talk about it, and neither did I. And with only an hour left before her mother-in-law dropped off the kids, we didn't have time to discuss it, anyway, even if we'd wanted to. Which we didn't.

Picking up my pen and staring down at my legal pad as if it were a safety net, I cleared my throat.

"So, I guess with the kids around, we won't see each other much during the week."

It happened so fast, I almost missed the flash of disappointment that flitted across her face before she masked it with an expectant stare.

"I mean, they're not around during the day, but that's when I'll be working.”

I nodded. "Me, too. But, if you need anything, just text, and I'll make it work."

"I'll be fine."

"I'm sure you will, but humor me with a ‘yes Daddy’ anyway."

She sighed, as if it were a real chore to do so. "Yes, Daddy."

God I loved to hear her say that. My cock hardened beneath my slacks and I shifted in my seat. I promptly thought about unsexy things, and willed myself soft. Now was not the time to have a hard-on for my mostly emotionally unavailable, still very much in love with her dead husband, Nyla’s best friend client. With our past and our undeniable chemistry, sometimes it was hard to remember that that was what Jasmine was to me: a client. One who needed my services more than most, and who could not afford for me to not make the most of every minute we had together.

"So…rules. First thing. Set an alarm on your phone to go off every day, and get your kids on the bus on time."

She nodded.

"Second thing. Spend an hour every morning and evening on doing upkeep to maintain the current level of cleanliness and organization."

"Yes, Daddy."

"Third thing. Four hours of work time every weekday. Is that doable?"
