Silence, then a squeal. “Leticia? Oh, my God! Is that you?”

“Yeah, Mama. It’s me.” She jerked out a sob. “I wanna go home.”

Her mother started uncontrollably sobbing, so did Leticia, and I hugged her, my own tears leaking down my cheeks for this young girl.

Chapter 24

Marked

Psycho

Once the sun was about to set, and with my phone on speaker, I dialed Viper.

“Yeah?” he answered.

“Got a situation. Can you come to my clubhouse?” I asked.

“What situation?” he groaned.

“Just rescued a bunch of girls from some piece-of-shit vampires. We smoked three of them, but two got away. I need you to use your hypnotic hoodoo on them before I take them to the bus station to meet their families. Then, we need to talk about this shit.”

Nera stared at me, nodding in agreement.

“Fine. Address?”

I forgot he hadn’t been here. Not that I’d been to his clubhouse either. When we did interact, it was on the phone or in a public spot. He’d visited my old clubhouse, just a small warehouse rental I’d had when I first moved here, but we’d since had this compound built.

I rattled off the address.

“I’ll be there in thirty and I’m bringing three guys.”

“Perfect.” I ended the call.

Nera looked at me. “Do you think the Nighthawks can find these bastards?”

I shrugged. “I’m not sure, but I think so. They’re not too dissimilar from us. They run a tight ship with good tech people and a strict organization. They’re going to be pissed I didn’t call them to do the rescue, but they’ll get over it.”

I mean, they probably wouldn’t get over it, but that was a problem for another day.

“My mom says she’s on her way.”

I looked over to see a girl with blonde hair who I thought was named Sarah announce it.

“That’s great, I’m sure you’re looking forward to seeing her. We have to wait about thirty minutes before we can leave, then we’ll drop you off at the Greyhound station. That’s where you told your mom to meet you, right?” Nera asked gently.

She nodded. “Yeah.”

“Great, sit tight and help yourself to more food, if you want.” Nera gestured toward the bar.

Since we’d been in here all day, it was near dinnertime and Cutter set out fried chicken and mashed potatoes with green beans. It smelled delicious. My stomach rumbled, but I wasn’t going to sit and eat until I was done with my business with Viper.

The girls went up and got plates of food and bottles of water or soda.

I sat at a nearby table, and Nera came over and sat on my lap.

“Do you think they’ll be okay?” she asked, staring at the girls. Leticia was still on the phone with her mom, but it wasn’t on speaker any longer.

“I think so. But they all have to get their stories straight.”
