“So good,” I said with a mouthful.

Cutter smiled and I could tell he looked proud. He pointed to the ingredients. “I’ll put this back in the fridge but help yourself if you want more, obviously.”

I thanked him and walked to the door, grabbing a cold water bottle from the other fridge on my way out.

I ate as I walked up the compound road toward the warehouse. It didn’t take me long, and before I entered, I noticed a large truck backed up to the bay. I went inside and saw my guys and a couple of strangers I assumed were from the truck offloading boxes that looked heavy. I tried to remember what shipment was coming in today, but couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

Menace walked up when he saw me. “The new shipment is here. I can’t wait to see the goodies.”

I cleared my throat. “Remind me again what we’ve got.”

“Why, more bar equipment, sir. See?” He shot a look at the workers, then pointed to one large box with Bar Essentials, LLC stamped on it.

But I knew better.

I chuckled. “Oh, okay. How many this time?”

He knew what I was referring to. Once we offloaded these weapons, we’d launder the money through the bar and the bike shop where we built and repaired motorcycles and occasionally our cagers (“for profit”) if they needed something.

“Two hundred. I already have buyers for most of them,” he answered.

“Good.” I clapped him on the shoulder. “Send me the info.”

The encrypted email he’d send later would break it all down.

“Meatloaf?” he asked, pointing to the sandwich in my hand.

“Yep. Cutter hooked me up.”

“Fuck, that looks good,” he said.

“Text him, he’ll probably bring you a few.” I gestured to the guys unloading the truck. Knowing how much Cutter liked to handle and prepare food, I had no doubt.

I walked out of the stuffy warehouse and back to the clubhouse. Nera had to be done shopping by now.

Chapter 17

The Turning Point

Nera

I had a bit of a buzz from my shopping high. Not only had I met a wonderful witch named Agatha who owned Agatha’s Psychic Room, but she had hooked me up with all kinds of things I’d need to do some witchy stuff while I stayed with the Bayou Wolves.

At first, I’d just introduced myself and told her I was new to the area, but Agatha had a way of getting things out of people. She at first made a face, incredulous that I was staying with a bunch of werewolves. Without going into too much detail, I explained my situation and she understood.

The fact that she’d slipped some wolfsbane into the bag at no charge did not go unnoticed by me.

I knew what wolfsbane did to wolves. It was basically their kryptonite. I didn’t see any reason why I’d need it, but as life had taught me, sometimes people were just rotten. I thanked her and left, hopping in the Audi. I used the maps app on my new phone to find a mall, which I was happy to learn was just a couple of miles away on Canal Street overlooking the Mississippi.

There, I parked and went inside to do some shopping.

I wondered if Trigger thought I was just another dumb blonde who was oblivious to her surroundings and wouldn’t catch on that he was following me.

Not that I cared.

I was sure Shep had sent him to follow me. I didn’t get the feeling it was because he was trying to control me, but rather, keep me safe.

That was what I hoped, anyway.
