Parker clinked his glass with mine. “Cheers.” We took a sip and then kissed.

A man in a suit with brown eyes and a beautiful woman on his arm approached us. He gave Parker a back-pounding man-hug. “What’s up, pretty boy?”

“Kovah, Manta, this is my girlfriend, Devon.”

“Nice to meet you,” Manta said, dipping her head.

Kovah nodded at me as he shoved a cracker and some olives into his mouth. “Hey.”

“You as well.” I smiled at them.

“Glad to see you ditched the douchebag glasses,” Parker said, chuckling.

I smacked Parker’s chest with the back of my hand. “Parker!”

Kovah laughed. “Nah, he’s right. I put these stupid contacts in when I have to do fancy shit or work events with the missus here.” He pulled down one brown contact lens to reveal a strange iris, it was whitish-blue with just a small black pupil.

“I see,” I said, wondering what happened to his eyes and making a mental note to ask Parker later. He didn’t seem to be blind. He was also eating food and smelled like a vamp, so I was confused.

“How’s New York?” Parker asked.

He shrugged and grabbed a piece of cheese, popping it into his mouth. “It’s all right. Gotta wait ten years before we can come back here.”

“It’ll go by fast,” Manta said, squeezing his hand.

“She’s right,” I added.

“Sorry, this is a private event.”

We turned to see Dash holding his hand up to an older gentleman in a prim suit. He looked familiar, as did the beautiful brunette on his arm.

“Isn’t that—”

My eyes widened. “Gregory.”

“Excuse us,” Parker said to Kovah and Manta.

I rushed over to Dash. “It’s okay, he’s a friend.”

“Yes, I’m terribly sorry to crash your party,” Gregory said to Dash.

I nodded at Dash. “We’re good.”

Gregory looked at me. “Rocky! You look so different! I hardly recognized you!”

I winked. “I clean up all right.”

He patted my hand. “You weren’t answering your cell, dear, and I wasn’t sure if you had made it out of your, ah, predicament earlier, so I came here to see Mr. Face.” He shook Parker’s hand.

“It’s just Face. Or Parker, if you’d like,” he said, chuckling.

“Well, I won’t take much of your time, I wanted to check on you and introduce you to my wife. Sue Ann, this is Rocky and Parker. Rocky helped me find you.”

“My name is actually Devon,” I said with a grin.

“Ooh, all these secret spy names. How exciting,” Sue Ann drawled with a giggle. “Nice to meet you both. Thank you for helping my Gregory find me. I thought I was destined to a long life of solitude.”

I glanced around and lowered my voice. “Why did you become a vampire, if you don’t mind me asking?”
