Alone at last.

“Do you know what we do here? What the Nighthawks do?” I asked her.

She smirked a little and it was so damn cute. “I’ll admit to doing a little Googling.”

I groaned. “I try to scrub everything about us from Google. How did you—”

She smirked wider.

“Never mind, forgot who I was talking to. And hey if you can access it, maybe next time you can scrub it for us?”

She lifted a shoulder and let it fall. “Eh, I’ll think about it.”

We stared at each other for a long time. Finally, she asked, “How did a pretty boy like you get involved in a biker gang? You look like you should be wearing a suit and working in a high rise, closing deals.”

“First off, it’s a club, not a gang. Secondly, looks can be deceiving. I obviously am not the muscle around here, but I help out when I can when we go on missions.”

Her full pink lips twitched. “Missions?”

I nodded, staring at her mouth a little too long. Our faces were less than a foot apart, and the air between us was sizzling with something I’d never felt with anyone. I could tell she felt it, too. I had the overwhelming desire to kiss her, and as I began to lean toward her as if I had no control over my body, the door flung open and Rocky gasped with a jerk.

“Kalissa’s water broke!” Jemini said excitedly.

I frowned. “But Venom’s the wolf.”

“Bloome and Shadow are driving her there in her car, and Venom’s gonna have to pray she doesn’t have that kid until morning.”

I shook my head. “Poor Harlan.”

“Wait,” Rocky said. “Who’s Harlan?”

“He’s the wolf. Venom,” Jemini supplied.

“He has a pregnant wife, or girlfriend, or whatever? Is she a wolf, too?” Rocky asked, and I was smiling inside that she was starting to feel more comfortable here.

“She’s human,” Jemini said, taking a seat next to us.

“So… her baby is gonna be half human, half werewolf?” She made a face.

I chuckled. “No, wolves breed with humans all the time. The babies are full werewolf; however, they don’t turn into one until around age eighteen.” My lips twisted in amusement at her expression. “Guess you never Googled that, huh?”

She shrugged and shook her head. “No, I don’t like wolves, they scare me. Not that I’ve ever met one. Just what I was told. I don’t see many here.”

“They’re pretty scarce here. Harlan’s from Colorado. Big population there.” I winked.

“Remind me to stay away from Colorado, then,” Rocky replied with a headshake. “Now, let’s finish this.”

Jemini and I watched as she continued to type and then ran a scan to show the malware was gone.

“That’s great, but the problem is, it keeps coming back,” I said.

“I know, I’m gonna check something next.” Then, she opened up the Dark Web and looked at my browsing history. I was glad I hadn’t looked at anything like porn because if you wanted the hardcore stuff, that was where you went. She pointed to the page I frequented. “See that site? It’s full of viruses and spyware. Every time you visit, that’s where it’s coming from. Now, I’m not gonna visit the page because then we’ll have to do another cleanup, but I’d scrub your cookies from here and avoid it.”

It was the site I used to track the human traffickers. How could it be giving me spyware without my knowledge, or the antivirus software not catch it?

“Hmm. And how do you know this?” I asked. When I glanced at Jemini, she seemed to have the same question, and looked a little skeptical.

“That’s what you’re paying me the big bucks for. Right, handsome?” She smirked at me once more, the lines of scars on her cheeks lifting with the smile.
