“Three males, two females. The females were both blonde and looked young, the men were older, but not old. One guy wore a Pittsburgh Pirates ball cap. The boat was white with a thick red stripe down both sides. It had temporary tags taped to the front window. Oh, and the girls had something shiny on their faces,” Rick finished. “Now that you say kidnapping, I’m thinking it was probably duct tape.”

I lifted an eyebrow. “You saw all of that while they were speeding away?”

Rick glanced nervously at his friend then back to me. “Yeah, since I got turned, I have an insanely photographic memory. And before you tell me you think that’s cool, it’s not. It’s only useful in times like these. The rest of the time, it’s not. There are some things I wish I could just unsee, ya know?”

“I can understand that,” Phoenix replied. “Were the men vampires, that you could tell?”

“No, couldn’t tell, they were too far away. I could barely make out that they were men.”

Phoenix put his hands in his pockets. “Anything else?”

Rick snapped his fingers. “Oh, the boat’s named The Trickster. Other than that, nothing else.”

Since he hadn’t told us anything we didn’t already know from the photograph, aside from confirming the boat stripe was red since the picture was dark, the name of the boat was very helpful.

“Any strange people hanging around here tonight?” Phoenix asked.

“Someone took this photo and sent it to us,” I said, handing them the phone. “Recognize them?”

They looked at the picture then Rick handed the phone back to me. “No, not really. And no, I didn’t see any people hanging around here who don’t work here.”

“Me either,” Tom added.

I pulled out a business card with the anonymous tip line printed on it and nothing else. I handed it to Rick. “If you think of anything else, text it to that. It’s completely anonymous, and we can’t reply, but you can leave your info on there if you’d rather us call or meet with you.”

He put the card in his pocket. “I will.

Once we reached the parking lot, we briefed the rest of them on what we’d been told.

“Description of the boat is about all we got to go on,” Viper said.

“I’m on it. Should be easy to locate unless they changed or added the name after it was sold,” I commented.

Just then, our phones all chimed in unison with a high-pitched squeal. We all looked at the screens to see a message pop up: Child Abduction (AMBER Alert) 13 yr old Lila Green W/F/502/125 BLU/BLND and 14 yr old Terra Johnson W/F/505/145 BRO/BLND

There was a link, so I clicked it to see photos of the girls and their last known whereabouts.

“Well, at least we have their names,” I said. “What do you want to do?”

Viper’s brow furrowed. “I really don’t want to do this, but since it’s public, we’re gonna need to hand this over to the BSI and let them handle it. They’ll have to figure out what to do with the men, if they are in fact vampires, once they’re captured. I’m sure they’ve handed gray areas like this before.”

“I agree,” Shadow said. “Time is of the essence here. We gotta report what Rick told us and the photo.”

“I’m on it,” I said. “I need my computer. Meet you guys back there.” I pocketed the phone, hopped on my Harley, and sped back to the clubhouse.

Chapter 5

Anonymous Tipster

“Come in,” Viper said, leading the two agents into the clubhouse. It was well past five a.m. now, and I was sure we’d woken the agents, but they looked put together as usual.

He led them to the breakroom, and Viper, Phoenix, and I sat with them at the table.

“This AMBER alert, do you know anything about it?” I asked, showing them the notification on my phone.

“We’ve been briefed, yes,” Agent Bishop replied.

I pulled up the text and showed him the photo. “We received that a couple of hours ago.”
