He gives a sheepish shrug, like he’s been caught at something. “I left the package at your doorstep. But I couldn’t seem to make myself leave. I’ve been standing right here, staring up at your window, for an hour.”

He’s been just standing here in the cold? Staring at my window? My heart melts into my panties. How can someone so dangerous be so freaking sweet?

“How did you know I’d want the watch?” I ask. “You saw my name engraved on the back, didn’t you?”

“Yeah.” He gets a faraway look in his eye. A deeper smile comes over his face. “Something like that.”

He doesn’t share more than that. I leave it alone.

“Well, thank you. Very much. That watch means the world to me.” My throat goes tight. I swallow down the overwhelming emotions I’m feeling from seeing him again.

“I’m glad I got to see you.” He looks down at the ground, scuffing the toe of his shoe against the road. “I guess part of me was hoping you’d come outside for some reason. That I’d get to catch a glimpse of you.”

“I was actually leaving. To come see you. I almost tripped over your gift.”

He looks up from his shoe with a kid-like Christmas Day shine in his eyes, surprise in his tone. “You mean you were leaving to see me? Before you even got the box?”

I smile as I nod. “Yeah.”

“Why?” he asks.

Heat flushes my chest, my cheeks. It’s time to come clean. To tell him how I feel. “I wanted to tell you something.”

“What did you want to tell me?” He takes a step toward me. I feel heat rushing over me, having him just that little bit closer.

“I understand why you did what you did. More than that, I accept it,” I say.

A wave of relief slides across his face. “Good. That’s good.”

“There’s something else…”

He just stares at me, waiting for me to speak.

What do I say?

I was so scared that Beckett Bachman was just another Trevor. A better looking, kinder, sweeter, more caring Trevor. Turns out the only thing the man standing before me and my ex have in common is they can throw a mean right hook.

It’s hard for me to express my feelings. I take a deep breath, steeling my nerves. “I realized I’m okay with the kind of man you are.”

“Good. ‘Cause I can’t change the man that I am. And I don’t regret what I did.” He moves closer, pulling me into his arms. His warm breath stirs my hair as he whispers into my ear, “I’d do it again. A thousand times over.”

“And I realized I want to be with you. Just how you are. You’re the man I want to be with.”

“Come here,” he says, pulling me into him. His voice is full of emotion. I can feel his love in his warm embrace.

It feels so good, being in his arms again. There’s more I want to say. More I want to tell him. One life-changing thing I need to admit to him.

The words bubble up from my heart, rushing from my lips. “I love you.” It’s such a release to say the words.

He stares down at me, the intense look in his eyes sending a thrill through my entire body. “I love you, too.”

As he kisses me, I know, for the first time in my life, I have a man in my life who loves me.

One I can finally depend on. Trust. Love. Who loves me back.

And it feels so good.
