That was the reason they were so outrageously wealthy.

“Being born a Lancaster isn’t always easy,” he grumbled. “There are very few people who see anything except our massive wealth. Damian and I make sure Lancaster International does good things for the entire world. We think it’s our responsibility to contribute when it comes to solving world crisis situations. Not only with money but with innovation as well. Everything Leo does is to try to save endangered species after we’ve been idiotic enough to drive animal populations to the brink of extinction. It’s never been about primarily making more money for any of us.”

I looked at him, stunned because I’d never really thought about the downsides of being ultra-wealthy. “Lancaster is well-known for all of the innovation you do to solve world problems,” I assured him. “And I have no doubt you donate heavily to charity every year, probably far more than you need to give. I don’t know a lot about what Leo does, but it obviously isn’t for the money since his sanctuary is nonprofit. If people don’t see the substance behind your wealth and all of the good things you do, then they’re idiots.”

I suddenly felt extremely defensive about the fact that no matter what the Lancasters did to help humanity, they’d always be seen as simply billionaires with more money than God and a prominent family name that everyone recognized.

Did anyone look beneath the surface when they met the members of this amazing family?

From what Dylan had said in the past about his dating experiences, I assumed…not.

“I know I’m extremely privileged, Kylie,” he said sheepishly. “You don’t have to defend me.”

I smiled at him, my heart tripping as I looked at his solemn expression. “Yeah, actually, I do. I know how hard you and Damian work, and judging by the fact that Leo is rarely home, I’m sure he does, too. If none of you are going to toot your own horns, maybe someone needs to do it for you. It pisses me off that no woman has ever seen the real Dylan Lancaster because I know what an incredible guy you really are.”

His expression turned into a full-fledged grin. “You’re the only female who actually matters to me.”

My pulse raced as he winked at me boldly, but didn’t say another word.

Holy shit! It might be a little mind-boggling to be the sole focus of Dylan Lancaster’s romantic attention…

But it felt pretty damn magnificent.
