Seth’s gaze swept the area. “He probably won’t die.”

“Those self-serving …” Hugh trailed off with a string of curses. “No one will give me the time of the day now that I’m out.” He snorted again.

Clary shrugged. “I guess probably is good enough.”

Seth sighed heavily. “How about we drag him into the garage and throw him in a tent?”

She stuffed her hands into the pockets of her pants. “You have a tent?”

“Yes. Several. We slept in them while I was renovating the place.”

Clary thought about it for a moment.

“It’ll still be roughing it,” Seth said.

“And he won’t die.” She nodded once, then shook her head. “No. Forget it.” She chewed on her lower lip.

“You’re worried it’ll be too tough on him?”

“I’m worried it’ll be too tough on you.”

Seth’s brows drew together.

“Elton will flip if he sees Hugh inside.”

“He’s already let him in once.”

Clary’s brows rose.

“Elton let him in to spite me.” Seth waved it off. “Don’t worry about him. I’ll handle it.”

“No.”

“I—”

“I don’t want this to become an ‘us versus them,’ Seth. They’re your brothers. I don’t want you to be fighting with them because of me and my Eolenfeld connection.”

“I’m going to buy up that stupid bar and kick all of them out!” Hugh announced to the dark sky.

“Yeah. Yeah. Good for you,” she said.

“So what do you want to do?” Seth asked.

“Good God, Clary.”

Clary spun around and gasped. “Nonna!” She ran over and threw her arms over Grandma Moretti who was standing in front of the small door. “What are you doing here?” She laughed and held a hand up. “To check in on me because I’m giving you a headache.”

Grandma Moretti’s eyes narrowed.

“I missed you.”

Grandma Moretti’s lips curled.

“The doorbell showed Seth’s car,” Zane said from behind Grandma Moretti. “She was wondering why it was taking you two so long to come up.”

Grandma Moretti took a step forward and craned her neck to the side. “Is that Hugh?”

Clary nodded.
