When she managed to suck in a breath, she blurted, “You shouldn’t be here.” She couldn’t fathom why that was the first thing she said, because she honestly didn’t care. She didn’t want to let him go.

But …

“Holly could still—”

“I don’t care.” Seth put her back on the ground, but he pressed her head against his chest. “I don’t care what Holly has.”

“But Oliver …”

“We’ll figure it out.” His chest rose sharply. “I’m not letting you go.”

“I’m so, so sorry.” She squeezed him tight with her arms wrapped around him. “I didn’t mean anything in that note. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t you ever do this to me again.”

She shook her head.

“And I’m going to cuff you to the bed.”

She chuckled and swiped at her tears while pulling back. “Will you forgive me?”

He held her shoulders and bent so their eyes were level. “Do you even need to ask?” He cupped her face and kissed her.

“Seriously? I was risking my life in there and here you’re making out?”

Clary broke the kiss and spun around the moment she heard Andrea’s voice. “Are you okay?” She jumped forward and gave Andrea a look over. “Did she hurt you?”

Uncle David laughed and strolled forward. “Andrea flipped Holly over and pinned her to the table in an instant.”

Andrea flicked her brows up smugly.

“Did you have to lie?”

“No, Holly was too smart for her own good.” Andrea held a finger up. “Let’s cut to the chase. Holly has nothing. She was so angry when I told her that Seth had given Oliver up to be with you. She kept babbling on and on, and when I pressed her for evidence, she said she just knew her boys had something to do with it.”

Seth sighed heavily. “Oh, thank God.”

“Yeah.” Andrea’s head bobbed up and down, the corners of her lips pulled down. “Oliver would not have thrived in prison.” She glanced over at Uncle David. “You’ll still drive me home, right? I don’t want to be in the same car as these two.”

With that, Andrea and Uncle David walked away, leaving Clary and Seth behind.

Clary sighed softly and turned to Seth. “I’m sorry.”

Seth cupped his hand over her hair and tugged her toward him. “I don’t want to hear your apologies anymore. I don’t care about them. Just tell me you’ll never do this to me again.”

“I won’t. I promise.” She closed her eyes as his chest rose and fell. “I couldn’t bear to tell Oliver,” she said, feeling like she should explain the situation.

“But you could bear to leave me?”

“Because I knew you’d choose to protect Oliver, but that choice would’ve hurt you.”

“You sound so sure about that.”

“That it’d hurt you?”

Seth pulled back. “That I’d choose to protect Oliver.”

Her brows twitched.
